Re: sweetfeed whisky

Whole batch taste like rubbing alcohol. Gross. Disappointed. Wonder what I did wrong. Started at 140 proof then the last one I collected was 70proof. Smells and tastes like the alcohol you would get for cuts and wounds

Re: sweetfeed whisky

I just got back from the feed store and picked this up. It looks like it should work, but the only things that concern me are in the ingredients: Soybean Meal Vegetable Oil (last ingredient) Can anyone let me know if this will work or not? I made sure to at least get it without pellets! I used Hors...

Re: Type of water for a mash?

So they gotta post a video on YouTube about shit they don't know anything about. Glad I ran into this website and veered away from youtube lol. I hav...

Re: Type of water for a mash?

Distilled water for diluting spirits for drinking. Dechlorinated tap water would ne better for fermenting. Distilled water has had all the minerals taken out of it. Those minerals are beneficial to yeast health. Regular bottled water would be fine for fermenting too. And I can't beleave you couldn'...

Type of water for a mash?

I searched the forum on this topic and didn't yield any clear results. Before I discovered this forum I read and saw on youtube that people use distilled water in their mash. Does tap water or distilled water matter?

Re: Carbon filtering

I would like to add to this discussion with a couple quick questions. I plan on running a sweet feed wash through my pot still this weekend. After it is done and all collected, would it hurt it to just run it through a coffee filter to remove any unwanted particles? Will it affect the flavor? Thanks...

Re: New to the forum

It's a bad recipe. The reason he calls for higher temps. Is to try to get it to ferment quicker. Honey is a slow fermenter. A gallon of honey is not cheap. Would hate to make the and it turn out like crap. I would stick to a cheaper sugarhead until you get some good experience. The tried and true r...

Thanks for the tip. I called my dad and he said that he remembers his dad m...

Hello folks, I'm 26 from Louisiana. I have recently taken an interest in shining. My grandfather passed a few months back and my father had his stainless steel pot still / condensing unit. Turns out he used to make sweet feed moonshine. I cleaned it up and polished it up and it looks good as new now...
