Re: First run of sweet feed
Making some progress now. I added a thump keg to my still to bring up the ABV. The flavor was just way to strong with just the pot and I found that it didn't oak up well either. We are good now though. 150 proof in the barrel and smells and tastes wonderful. I can't believe how stupid simple the thu...

Re: First run of sweet feed
Just had a taste of that whiskey that has been oaking up for only 4 days. What a difference some keg time makes! I think that with some real age time this will be a great product.

Re: First run of sweet feed
I was considering just adding a bit more column to to my still head so that I could add some packing. Who knows, I may do that. I don't want a real high ABV, just something to play with.

First run of sweet feed
Just did my first sweet feed run on Sunday. It turned out good. I put one gallon of product in the keg for aging. I started the next run of sour mash right away. It was bubbling in a couple of hours. I think I'm going to add a thump keg to my pot still before the next run. My short column still head...

Re: Off Topic Bull
That Crown bottle on the stand to the right is 30+ year old bottle that is measured in OZ. It's write up on the back talks about how some of the whiskeys are as old as 30 years in the blend. They sure don't brag about that now. In fact they flat out deny ever having stated that. (but I have proof) O...

Re: My 7 gallon copper pot
A thing of beauty. I love to see traditional methods being used. Its kind of a lost art that you guys are helping keep alive. I would love to have a copper still laying around. I live in town though and it may raise a few eyebrows. Although....i'm sure that my neighbor the police officer would be ov...

Re: Brand New! Still?
You can purchase a lot of your tri clamp stuff at http://www.glaciertanks.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow or you can find them on ebay also. I purchased a stainless insert from them and soldered it to the copper. I too may want more rise from my...

Re: Hey fellers
I would say that you are well on your way. IMHO, put your still together and get some wash started. I have a saying as a wood worker when something breaks or goes wrong. It's only wood, it can be fixed. My point is this....you may not like what you build the first time out, but it sounds like you ha...

Re: Hey guys!
Thanks! It's on display in my living room. I'm excited to use it. Being only a 20l barrel it is supposed to age liquor 8 to 10 times faster than a 52 gallon barrel. I could do a ten year whiskey in 10 months. How awesome is that? And even better is that I can drink right from the barrel! M...

Re: Brand New! Still?
I was going to buy my still from Mile High but I wanted a copper still. It cost me the same money to build my still head as it would to buy one, about $140. I think it turned out great. The cleaning run worked great. I made a traditional still head with little rise (for flavor) that uses a tri clamp...

Hey guys!
Just wanted to say hi. I have been reading from this forum for some time now. Whiskey is my goal in researching from here. I am a former Canadian that lives in MN now and have been a fan of Crown Royal and drinking it for some 25 years. I would love to create a more pure Rye/Blended whisky that woul...
