Re: Understanding SG to calculate ABV
I've continued to educate myself quite a bit more on the subject the last few days. Probably got the hang of it. I DO have hydrometers---two of them. One for the mash, and one for the proofing. Funny thing was the instructions on the hydrometers, once I read them made more sense than all the posts a...

Understanding SG to calculate ABV
Getting ready for my first run soon. I'm still having trouble understanding SG and how to calculate it, determine it, etc. if there is a post about this...I'm missing it as I've looked for awhile.
Can someone give me a crash course from start to finish on it? Thanks.

Re: first post on forum
Just a note if you didn't know from Kyle, the guy who produces these stills: "Scrubbers increase the purity of the spirit as it moves up through the column. This takes the place of a thumper on a traditional pot still. They're also critically important for removing sulfur from the distillate. Y...

Re: My 5 gal OTC
I have this same still. I am in the process of building it. I'm not sure doing this in your kitchen with a plastic container for collection is the best idea, but I'm just a person on the cautious side. He's right about the boiler rivets allowing some of the boiler wall to buckle. But Kyle, the guy w...

Thermometers - How Do They Work?
I'm taking my sweet time easing into this craft and this is an amazing resource. My copper is cut to size, and all in place...assembly awaits. I can add thermometers I assume buy installing one in the boiler that will measure temperatures of the wash. But I've seen my kind of 5 gal still have anothe...
