Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
I would see if you have a brew store close and get the bigger bucket - they have like 6 gallons. With the offset of the corn and sugar you will be hard pressed to fit that into a 5 gallon bucket. Plus you should really get a food safe one. Can get them on the interwebs as well just search fermenter ...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
I'm not totalllly sure I'm reading everything correct. After I do the first run through the still, from what I read from others collect everything including tails. Then do a spirit run? and thats my final product? I'm not sure what the second fermentation is all about..I'm not adding my alcohol bac...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Want to get a quick logic check on what I am doing. Thanks again for the previous help on this - things are running smooth so far. So I am fermenting my third run. First run was normal stripping run - everything saved 'cept the foreshots (175ml) Second run I dumped all the low wines saved from the f...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Thanks for the info guys - will change to some bakers yeast and give it a shot. I might have spoke too soon on this second batch tho - I got the hydrometer out gave it a good stir on top to get rid of the scum on the top and she is still going. Start (5/28) 1.060 First Check (6/2) 1.040 (first time ...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
Hey guys - hope someone can help with this... So I have had two failed tries at the wash (my first two tries ever). First try I let sit too long and it turned into vinegar. This is what I have done step by step with the second wash. Picked up some California Ale Yeast. Mixed up a half a gallon of wa...

Re: How to Make UJSSM for Newbies - by StogieFarts
Yeah my bad - I added the rest of the water - just kept it a little low at the start to get the sugar all dissolved. Once it was dissolved I added the rest of the water and the corn and yeast. Actually its been in there closer to two weeks now - but like I said the action has still not stopped on th...

Re: How to Make UJSSM for Newbies - by StogieFarts
So I made the first mistake by not checking my wash with the Hydrometer at the start. I used the original recipe for 5 gallons. Put three gallons of water in and put all the sugar in and stirred till it was all dissolved - I used the raw cane sugar you can get from Walmart that is brown. Next I adde...

Re: Simple pot still 3" questions
Thats pretty much just what I built, well em building except for the 2" at the start of it. Those two solder joints between the 3" elbow and the reducer was the hardest part for me to do as it was hard to get the heat even enough. I am still working on the worm and bucket so I cant help on...

Re: First time- Pot Still build
Thanks for the help so far guys! So yeah, both are still too big not sure what the thickness is of the ferrule but it still almost has half overlap on the type M. So I am not sure on the expanding mandrel guess I would take it to a welding shop or something to see if they can get it expanded? I did ...

First time- Pot Still build
So I am working on my first build. I picked up a milk can from Mile High. Also ordered a foot of 3 inch copper pipe and a 3 inch Stainless Steel Ferrule from HillBilly. I think I have most of this figured out but a big question I have is joining the 3" pipe to the Ferrule. I assumed that the Fe...

Re: opinion of whiskeystills.net stills
I was looking at them as well. I sent two emails asking the length of the copper used in the worm and got zero response.

Few questions -
Hey guys - First off great site and great community! I have been lurking around for a few weeks reading up on as much stuff as I can. So I am looking at buying a still at this point (will prolly make my own later) and I was thinking about this site - http://www.whiskeystill.net/" onclick="...
