Something new distillers can try next time, you can do this on your stove.
Save 100-200ml of heads for this one.
Bring about 1L of water to boil, then turn of the heat and wait a few sec's for the boiling to stop
now slowly tip about 100ml of heads into it.

This is completely unrelated to the previous post, but it was the most appropriate place I saw to place it without the hassle of a completely new thread. Another hobby is genealogy. On a site, someone posted this trying to figure out what it is. Munger.jpg No approximate age or any information at a...

Re: Double-wall boiler safety/operation
Double wall boiler over pressure release.. This is very complicated and technical. Yo will need to dump a fair bit of power into the water bath to get it to pressurise, but the over pressure is simple. You have a vertical opening and place a weighted plug on top of the opening, make the weight heavi...

Re: Help with Condenser Design for 100mm/4" Boka Column
Nothing wrong with 4", but you have to keep in mind that you have to scale everything proportionally. You will need a more mash and that means a bigger boiler and more heat and bigger condenser. For your mate I would suggest a rethink for the first build and start with a proven 2" design, ...

If you have not tried plum whisky/brandy, it has a caramelised sugar cane syrup taste like Bundaberg Rum, but milder with a hint of vermouth, in my opinion more pleasant then cane sugar rum will ever be.

Re: Anyone tried electroplating for increased surface area?
Hi Enigmacious Most on here will enter new waters with caution and err on the side of safety. I started exploring copper plating or forming to build parts by 3D printing or CNC routing cheaper materials. I then moved to building up copper packing for columns. I am now playing around with plating the...

Re: Electroforming Copper replenishing copper packing
Update on Copper forming/plating, after a few trials/test, this is becoming so easy with excellent results. My thoughts on applications, if you using a Stainless boiler or columns etc, you could very easily plate the inside of your boilers etc with copper, this will be my next test. Other possibilit...

Good day everyone, hope all is well. I have a question regarding building the pot still discussed here. Can I use a 50L keg as my "boiler" and just make the cap frustum with the Lyne arm? Will the keg have the same benefits as the bottom and top Frustum? Thanks Eckardt The short answer is...

Get rid of the wine cooler if it uses the transistor type heat pump, they chew heaps of power.
You are better of replacing it with a small fridge and change the thermostat.

A shotgun condenser is nothing more then a lybig but with multiple cores. A length of 1/2" copper tube is relatively cheep if you wanted to make a shotgun condenser. or you could find a length of 3/4 and 1" tube and just make a single core condenser. dont rush, start making what you can an...

I re drew it as your pic was a bit absrtract, to make sure I had the right concept and I forgot to ask if the blade angle was ok.
I take the top blade gap should be large enough to accept the size of fruit being parted, + 5-10mm.

Condenser orientation; Taking into consideration hot gasses rise, Ideally a condenser will perform best in a vertical configuration whith the vapor feeding in from the top downward and with the coolant entering/flowing from the bottom upward. Then you need to take vapor dynamics into consideration. ...

You would not use solar panels! You need approximately 15 square meters of solar panels to produce 2.4Kw of power. During summer the sun produces approximately 1Kw of energy/heat per square meter. You would produce 3Kw of heat from a 3 square meter solar trough collector. This was a test I did back ...

@decoy if that cut don't work I drew up a basic plan for a stone fruit cutter, if I was in SA I could have taken photos of home made and bought cutters of several types. This one is a simple tray cutter (to hook over a tray or piece of wood). You can just make it out of a bit of galvanised iron and...
