Got pretty severe CP, hands tingle just typing this. I don't work as hard with my hands as used to but it is what it is. surgery is not an option as the healing process is 4-6 months and my livelihood depends on using my hands. A little bit of exercise and stretching helps. Wearing braces to bed lik...

and.. scorch. So much for that batch.. the life of a distiller. Racked, let it settle and took off the top clear but the soup had enough rye in it to stick to the element. Heated up super slow knowing it might, stirred but noticed the bubbles coming up were brown and then saw some wisps of smoke, su...

Good news, She finished up on Thursday evening with an SG of 1.00 Shut off the water jacket and let her cold crash out there in the cold mudroom. Montana Cuda Corn

After moving up north and acquiring a large garden I looked into some corn and found the Montana Cuda corn, a special breed from an old indian corn high in starch used for cornmeal and celebrations. Planted the entire garden, harvested, dried and finally got around to getting the mill going and ran ...

Re: Which corn would you grow?

I moved to Montana on 27 acres last year. I’ve got 250 seeds of Montana Cudu Corn that was bred by Ed Shultz for the short growing season going in the garden this year. Its mostly a cornmeal type breed so should grind up nice in the fall.

Been using a modified corona mill like above i got from a thrift store for 5 bucks. Harbor freight 1/2 low speed high torque drill grinds through a bag of white corn down to chunky meal in about an hour.

Once you have some yeast, you can grow more and never run out.
Look into yeast propagation and how to store yoour colonies long term.

.
The only real concern for tap water is if your municipality uses chloramine as it can cause some yeast to give off a medical band aid taste. Its easy to remove with campden tablets from the bew shop.

Half dozen 6 gal Glass carboys for racking, sugar and sparged grain wort.
15 gal BOP for AG on the grain cook/ferment
20 gal Rubbermaid for the UJSSM

With an 8 gallon boiler i get two strip runs per batch, takes two batches for a spirit run.

Re: Off to a great start, best conversion ever.

I gave the drill a good pull once and mash ended up on the floor so wont be doing that again. A simple motor with two pulleys to create a slow rpm stir is all i need.
Would be a good excuse to get a grain mill and share the motor.
