Re: Honey Bear Bourbon

I usually put 6 to 10 half shells in a 5 gal paint strainer bag suspended in the mash, makes removing them easier. Learned this trick the hard way after trying to squeeze the grain and ruining a couple strainer bags from the sharp edges of the shells. The shells are self regulating (they only disso...

Would someone mind scaling this recipe to a 30 gal fermenter?

LukeDuke: the Sugarland Apple (35%)was really good mixed with the midnight moon cherry(45%i think). The ladies were tearing it up. I wish I could find the Sugarland around here, would like to mix it up again (haven't started running my machine yet to make my own) Ya, my favorite was the Rye Apple(M...

Re: OLE SMOKY TENNESSEE MOONSHINE Corn recipe

I've tried all if their drinks and I'm not at all impressed. The flavored drinks are flavored with a syrup I believe. Nasty. I prefer Sugarland distillery if im going to drink commercial runs. They use the UJSSM recipe as their main brew.

Re: Oaking and aging the T-Pee way

What would the roasting time be for very small oak chips, like those sold in brew shops? A vanilla smell was very heavy around the 1 hour mark at 380 degrees.

Fidget: I agree with MichiganCornhusker , do both. That way, you can use the dunder from one to start your dunder pit for the other recipe. And yeah, rum totally comes in handy during the holidays, like in my favorite fruit cake recipe. -------------------------------------------------------...

Re: Copper in (ss)boiler question.

It's a (ss)Liebig condenser which is 1/2" in diameter. So there's no copper anywhere else on this baby, but what was in the reflux column.

Copper in (ss)boiler question.

I took the reflux column off the still so I can run true pot still mode. Since the still is stainless, and the column houses the copper mesh. Can I put the copper into the boiler with positive effect? Or will it do little to no good?

Re: First ever run, I'm pretty proud.

Was your column packed during the run possibly getting some passive reflux? The reason is ask is, I may be wrong but those ABVs seem a little high for a 10% wash with no reflux, those are very similar to what I get on a spirit run with a 40% abv charge of low wines. EDIT I see that you did have cop...

First ever run. How did I do?

I'm wanting to make sure my first run was typical and I didn't do anything wrong. Or maybe you have advice on making it better next time. Used Sweet Feed because it sounded really good and easy. My version of the recipe as follows: For a 10gallon volume, 14lb sugar, 16lb Sweet Feed(Producers Pride A...

Re: my first ferment (sweet feed)

Ran 8gal spirit run of SF wash in my (13gal) stainless reflux still in pot mode, (105,000 btu)propane heated. Trying to get more flavor rather than abv. It seemed to take forever. BTW, the condensor is 1/2 inch "ID" shotgun type. Had plenty of coolant, no vapor. Fores started at 170F and v...

Re: my first ferment (sweet feed)

you must have had a lot of sugar to be still going strong after 11 days. My recipe, 10 gallons total volume, 14lb white sugar, 15lb sweet feed, EC-1118 yeast. First SG read was 1.074 @ 90°F, and the ferment temp from start until now has been floating between 65℉-70℉. On the " Specific Gravity ...

The Alaskan Bootleggers Bible; Interesting old facts.

Was reading the The Alaskan Bootleggers Bible today, and right off(pg.9) I learned a few interesting facts I wanted to share with you guys. Way back in the old days, not sure of dates, brewers would put a quarter stick of dynamite into fermenting batches that died out prematurely because of cold or ...
