Ill try soldering it, if the plumbing supply house has some flux that will work on stainless.

So I finally got around to getting some kegs. A friend of a friend gave me 2 "5yr old kegs" that he hasnt found anyone who wanted them or got around to scrapping them, FREE! So I went to try to find a threaded coupler to solder/weld in, but could not find one big enough... :cry: The bigges...

The bakers yeast seems to be more active, prob because they got alot more yeast than the EC-1118 ones did...

The recipe calls for testing the SG daily...
Should i not be mixing it daily before testing the SG?
Or should i just be pulling a sample from the middle w/o mixing?
Ive already took the initial before adding yeast...

Hey guys! I made up my first few birdwatchers mashes yesterday. I made them in the 5gal BPA free water jugs w/ rubber stoppers and airlocks on top. How do i pull a sample to measure the SG? After shaking it really well and pouring off my SG sample and not pulling it from a settled bottom, my SG read 1.083...
Its a bubbling away already!
And i brought it up to a 4gal total!

I added 2 packs of EC-1118 to the sample i had pulled off...
It was at a nice 95deg F...
Then i poured it back into the jug, which didnt cool down as fast as the sample and was at 120deg F...
I really need to pay more attention to what im doing....:facepalm:

Apparently i just needed to shake it better before i pulled the sample off...
And i pulled from the bottom w/o shaking...
It was a 1.08 once i added the extra few for the temp difference...

Hey guys...
I just mixed up my first Birdwatchers, and my SG read 1.12...
I used this CALCULATOR to scale it down to a 4 gallon mash..
I used 4gal city tap water, 7.51lbs sugar, 1/2 lemon, a pinch of epsom, and 149g all natural tomato paste...
What should i do?
