Re: Mashing with Rid-X septic treatment only, success it works!

Experimentation is great, I'm just suggesting that drinking it would be harmful.

Re: rum wash vinegar??

This EXACT same thing happened to me. I made a rum wash before christmas last year and didn't get around to running it for a couple months. When I tasted it it was very dry and kinda had a vinegary quality to it. I ran the wash just for the hell of it and it wasn't what I expected. It definitely was...

Re: Mashing with Rid-X septic treatment only, success it works!

This is quite interesting, I never thought of using Rid-X to ferment a mash. The whole thing seems rather risky, albeit VERY interesting. It would be cool to know what strange compounds were produced by that enzyme cocktail. I'm gonna have to agree with big j though, it isn't food grade and just thi...

Re: new user, still ideas?

I ran into the same problem when I built my still (GBM's stovetop was my inspiration too). I ended up getting in touch with a plumber who got me a 3 inch diameter 3 1/2 foot segment from one of his jobs. It was like 30 bucks, not bad for the thick walled good stuff. If I were you I would either call...

(dramatic voice) ADVENTURES IN AMATEUR DISTILLING!

This is probably my third post ever on this site. I guess I just like lurking. So last fall I got an idea to build a liquor still while in organic chemistry. So I perused the internet and found this site. So I did my standard main site reading and began browsing this forum for still ideas. I found a...

Re: Finally got everything together.

I was going to leave the joint at the head unsoldered for future expansion/modification and use flour paste to seal the joint.

Also* i've been wondering if the coil knocks down 100 percent of the vapors, if it doesn't won't the vent hole allow for my precious vapors to escape?

Finally got everything together.

I am going to begin building tomorrow but first i have a few questions. 1. Should i add an inverted elbow on the inside of the T to provide turbulence at the take off point? 2. What is the purpose of a vent hole in the column cap and do i need one? 3. Has anyone had any luck with pvc cooling jackets...
