Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
Hi again, read the whole post again and I think most of your off taste comes from spending to much time under heat, with the hi temps at the bottom of your boiler for so long you are burning the wash ( sort of like cooking bacon to long it smells and tastes burnt). With a tower like yours you should ...

Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
Sound advice EG. And Harold try the sugar turbo yeast I use it a lot and find that there really ain't much taste there for making it good for neutrals . I also think you are trying to hard, make a good wash, learn your equipment, boil, condense ,drink . It's really not that hard. Can give you some hin...

Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
PS, I have also put a flute plate between the boiler and the basket and have used a screen instead of the plate and filled the basket(4x2) adaptor half full of ceramic rings, both help to drive the proof up.

Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
Jees, Harold that sounds like a lot of work,I have a few cm stills and I have no problem running at plus 180 proof on a singal run and it is clear and pure,no off taste or smell, then I cut to 105 proof and filter .i always lose about 5 points on the filtering so I end up with 100 proof that tastes l...

Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
Hi again, almost forgot at the end of the run after the unit has cooled down I remove the tower from the boiler and reverse flush it with cool water, then let it stand on end with both ends open to the air to dry out. The cooper or SS packing is good till the copper turns black, then pull the packing,...

Re: Compound Still: disruption of equilibrium??
Hi Harold,it looks like one of MHs units, the boys have all given good advice. The way I run mine is to get the boiler temp. up slowly( takes me 1 1/2 hrs) till it reaches 80 C then I turn down the heat source a little to try to hold it there, it will continue to rise but at a slower rate. I run the...

Hey Cooperjohn, yes a lot of plates are over kill,But the joy of watching 6/8/12/18 plates all work is a rush, I have a a lot of stuff, as far as running with packing I use a 8 " extension below the deflag with copper or rings, this also sits on a 2" extension to have some space between the...

Hi Prairiepiss, you are right about the valves on the out put I just said a man could,if I was to run this set up using one keg at a time I would put a plate on top of the cold keg to stop run back in to it and close the drain valves, that way it is safe. I always and have done it a dozen times or so...

Re: Tri power by Big Bert
Hey SS. I guess a guy could try using one keg at a time if you put a plate on top of the keg not under heat or valves in the tube itself to shut down one. I have the kegs connected through the drains to equalize them so if you only fire one keg up it should I think suck the wash out of the cold keg ...

Re: 10 foot stick of 2"
Jar you can also make shorter sections ( 8/12/18") so you can add and subtract and get a high proof pot unit or high proof reflux unit. Fill them with SS or whatever your choice and away u go

Re: Running the Copper Custom Flute
Hi Drinkingdog, the unit on top is what I call a flavour cage,it has 2 cups ( spoons) in side where u add 40 ml ( 20 per spoon) of any liquid you want and it will carry the flavour in to the final product, and if you put it on the down side above the PC you get colour and flavour . Yes EG has a thin...

Hi Jar, if you go on the MileHi site and look at his 2" dual purpose tower you will know what to do and being you have a lot of 2" you can make the PC fatter and shorter ,and that's my thoughts

Re: 10 foot stick of 2"
Hi Jar, I own a few 2" SS reflux towers and I always get a good neutral ( up to 195 proof ) . One made with cooper would work great, just a though, with 6" of3" and 3 or 4' of 1/2" you could make a great reflux tower
