Re: Why is this so?

you checking your sg closely? if the ferment is not done to the same sg the temps will show it. your final quantitys should differ also. less distilite means lower alcohol content in wash means higher temps at column. sounds like with 95% the still is right. check the ferment and also check your the...

Re: Drawing up a Double Boiler

i know the size is off but i can mash very easily with a keg in a 33gal barrel using water. very cheap and effective. you could use a 55gal still drum and make a 30?gal tank to go in it. might not be real pretty but it will work. i can cook my corn to porridge with no problems.

sounds to me like you only want to do this because you will be somewhere that it is legal to do. this is not something like learning to ride a bike that you can learn to do well in a short time. i am not encouraging you to do something illegal either but if i was in your shoes i would enjoy my trip ...

Re: New Pot Still - Questions and comments....

if you are not using packing it doesnt look like that rig should produce 80 to 90 percent. it might but i think you should check your alcometer or the temps of the spirit. on the other hand if it taste good keep it up.

i use a 33gal barrel to sit my keg in. works like a charm. no scortching and the water evaporates at about the same amount as the distillate collected so i dont worry about the keg floating. i do use propane though.

punkin, take that keg and put it in a 33gal drum that is cut off to the same height as the keg. this will make a nice double boiler with about an inch to spare along the edges. take a half gallon of the grain from the mash and add to the boiler. then do your run. check out that flavor my friend.
