Re: VM, CM, and LM confusion

I assume the still spirits super reflux still is just a cooling management still?

Re: Heating elements in Aust...

Thanks mate, I would go gas but id rather use electricity because we don't pay for elec at our place.

I guess they sell copper there too? any idea how much it would cost all up to make a condenser?

Heating elements in Aust...

Hey, I've got a SS beer keg i'm going to use to make a still.

Where can I get a heating element? any idea on costs?

Ne recommendations on a design? it would be good if I could convert it to a pot still for rum too.

Whats the cheapest option for a soldering heat source?

Thanks

Re: reflux by cooling column

This is interesting, I think my dads Still sprints super reflux still has cooling around the outside of the column...does anyone know if that is right?

I guess by-passing it would be better?

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe...scaled down

We are using a Still spirits reflux still, I found the wiki page on this site last night and am gona do a lot of reading over the next few days. I'm also going to mod the still to put a larger reflux column in too. We have been carbon filtering the turbo yeast grog, I assume we should carbon filter ...

I have read that this simple recipe is better than the turbos? in terms of taste?

Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe...scaled down

Gday, I scaled the Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe down to 20L, and that gives 4.5Kg of sugar for a 20L wash. What would happen if the 4.5 kg of sugar was increased to say 6-8kg? We have been using the turbos yeasts using 8kg of sugar. We got roughly 10L of 40% per batch. It would be good if we could...

Re: Rum from scrach

Ok so we fermented out the mix yesterday. 25 L total. 6L molasses 3kg brown sugar 1kg white sugar 24hr turbo yeast It stopped with an SG of 1.3 i think from memory. At the start of the distill we got like runny chocolate looking stuff but then it went a darkish clear color. It then went pure clear (...

I want to make a rum from scratch with molasses etc. I see there are a few recipes around, what is the best one to do for a 25 Liter mix?
