Re: Copper boiler thickness?

I built my 30 gallon with 20 oz copper. IIRC its 22 gauge. Mine is plenty sturdy and does the job well. I’m looking to be able to run my 4” plated column, or a packed column. Would your 30 gallon support that much weight on top? I don't see why it wouldn't. Its 18" in diameter and 28" tal...

Re: Gibbs vs Midwest barrel company, which makes a better 5 gallon barrel?

I drove up to midwest barrel In Lincoln to pick up my 5 gallon new barrel and a old line sprits 30 gallon head bung barrel. Nice guys to deal. I haven't been around a gibbs barrel but my Midwest barrel is very nicely made. mexico made or not it seems like it should do the job.

threading a drain valve should work on a wood keg right? I think i am just gonna go with a slip fit and flour seal with the in pipe and thread a pipe in for the out pipe to the worm. and a little flour seal for that too. barrel is a head bung so i have a ready made fill port and place to shoot the t...

Re: Corn with only enzymes

What enzymes are you using and at what temperatures are you adding them? Using Ferm Solutions, I add the AHA 400 1.6ml/gal at 180 to 185F, then I add the GA150 at .8ml/gal at 110F. Which I see now I made an error in my previous post where I stated 140. That was using Pinto's enzymes. If you're usin...

In the end remember, its your still and your final product. You can get caught up in a law of diminishing returns with this hobby. When i built my flute its 3in dvw and it's nowhere perfect. I have some slight gaps in my plates. I only used 1/2in id hard copper for downcomers and no cups. Just a 1/8...

One thing i noticed guys on this 917 yeast, is after i squeeze the grains and run a sugarhead back on the grains it doesn't to seem to wanna fire back up. last few i've had to repitch Bakers. which is fine its cheap but i had the same problem with DADY. So i just plan repitching on any sugarhead now...

I threw one of these down this weekend. 100lbs of cracked corn, i ran it thru my mill to the consistency of grits. I think that helped alot. 50 gallon of water and ferm solutions enzymes. Hit 1.055 SG so about 7% potential. I am happy with that. These enzymes keep working even during fermentation I'...

Pretty cool looking old still. I was gifted one myself last fall. More than likely it's assembled with lead solder. Which is a nogo for actual use. Set it up as a display in your house.

The instructions said a gram per gallon of mash. so i started 45 grams of yeast. And i have started Bread yeast in the same manner and it didn't take off like this did. I've even done Dady yeast the same way and it reminded me of bakers.

I think your on the right path with a acid soak of some kind. Sunlight will help a bunch. How do they smell? Is it very Strong? Hot dunder outta the still would be another good free product to use to get the smell out.

I found out the barrels were used for sausage casings, Smithfield has a plant here local. They are usually easy to find around here for 25-30$ a piece Soak the grain like a sour corn starter.
