Ya, I usually go buy it by the bundle then (I think 8-10 bags/bundle). I tell them I am a supervisor at a trucking firm, and all my short haul truckers go thru coffee like crackheads go thru coke ... I don't give them any excuse. Best part of living in Canada is we can buy what we want with out big...

Re: wooded rum - it's blue??!!
Well I made the decision to make up the bottle of rum oaked with this stuff today. Rum was 4 months old as white and then aged 2 months on the oak chunk Diluted down to 50% ABV(100 proof). So here are my results: 1. Color - Dark Rum coloring not quite a commercial dark color but dark enough that its...

Sorry to hear Odin, I feel your pain though. had 3 ligaments torn off in my shoulder and had to get them all reclamped on and 1/2 in of collar bone taken out to adjust for the shortness. Doc says I now have the shoulder of a 65yr old man (only 40). You might get lucky. I have been living with this f...

Color is about Capt Morgan Dark rum in color. Taste is fabulous. Still a bit new to the taste but very very rum like. I am gonna let ...

They are from about 2" square to about 1" by 3" in size in the bag I picked up. The ones I have taken out and looked at are all cut short ways across the stave by the looks of it.

Ok now that you have done a turbo have you done a tried and true recipe? If not give one a shot and then see the difference. I really do thing everyone should try one of both to see the difference. +1... Perhaps hitek redneck doesn't really know what good is and is just overly excited that he was e...

yep i fully get that and am not trying to sound naive i just understood it to be not quite so relavent unless your really trying to get picky. in my mind if i try make a white rum or white spirit etc i heard you need to filter them a few times make them smooth and mellow to not have extra tastes. t...

Hey Vereid,
welcome to the forums. I think Maritimer is right that makes you the 4th of us but not 100%sure, I think there might be a 5th here too.
EDIT: too bad this hobby is so anti-social for gatherings. Be nice to talk to people in person sometimes

You might be able to find a small enough SS gas line that might wind small enough.. not sure how small you can get that stuff.Rum_dog wrote:

First start with what recipe did you use? Just curious as I am a rum maker(term used loosely) also and mine seems to have a rum taste but not a store bought rum taste if you understand what I mean. Also are those % numbers before each jar you have listed the ABV% for each bottle? I see you had menti...

Re: please help: yeasty tasting /smelling distillate
you gotta remember alcohol % and purity are 2 totally different things. 91.5% just means its 91.5% alcohol. The other 8.5% could be anything. The good part is now you have tried a turbo yeast type product. You know what it taste like and can learn from there. If your not going for a specific flavor ...

Rennet is made from the sphincter muscles of cattle (rennets). Yep and is used in cheese making. I started majoring mozzarella last year and the recipes all call for it. What type of wash are you making? I did a run of sugar wash to clean my still(yuck) and then a few runs of wine to figure out what I was doing. Those wine runs never had anything in the distillate, however when I started rum I found black flecks started. I remember reading somewhere on here that you...

Re: Distillers yeast
its a Turbo. I tried the Rum one and made the mistake of thinking it would taste good. Wrong. there is a reason turbos need carbon and if you use it on the Distillers version you lose all your flavor but if you don't use the carbon then you gain a whole bunch that taste like crap. I wasted my money,...
