I believe Kimbodious uses Stevia . Hopefully he will pop by and comment . Or PM him .
I know of at least one Commercial Distillery in Aussie that uses it too .

Re: Parrot Design?

I never use one nor will I probably ever make one but...In my opinion , this parrot design by BourbonJunkie is the go . There is no smearing or Alcometer bounce. Simply close the valve when you want to take a measurement , the parrot fills . Read it and open the valve to dump . A0DE558F-50E1-4711-B9...

Re: Questions, Questions, Questions

Why make a new condenser ? OK , sure that worm and flake stand is too small for that size boiler , but you put a hose connection on the bottom and drain the excess hot from the top , it will be fine . If you buy a Liebig or even a shotgun condenser , you are still going to need to run water through ...

Re: UK Still Builder/Supplier

That coil is so big , I think it will almost be impossible to use it as a Deflagmator . Also , using the 9mm spigot is not a good idea as it is too small to safely use as a vapour line . Have you looked at CCVM still . You use that coil but you use a Tee module . You connect your liebig to the the T...

Very nice .
But it is good practice to ground ( Earth) all exposed metal in a plastic enclosure . I see no earth wires fitted to the Potentiometer or the heatsinks on the SSR .Nor the fan guard or temp probe socket.

Well done Howie . Sounds like you are getting the hang of your still . A few things . I agree with zed that you may have been overcooling during your full reflux / EQ period . Been a while since I used a Thermometer , but EQ temp was never lower than about 76°C from memory . Adjust your coolant flow...

Re: csst verse copper wound coil

I doubt you will wind a double helix out of 3/8” for a 2” column . 1/4” is better suited . With a CCVM , you need to be able to move the RC up and down , but it must stay where you put it . Consensus would favour CSST with interwound scrubbers as a simple solution . If you use a copper coil , you ha...

I wouldn't just pour them in as they would stack and block the column
If you bent them into a "U" shape they would work .

Re: 3 pot stainless steel still modification question?

Upsizing the tube would be a good reason from a safety point of view , but stuffing it with packing won’t improve the AVB . You need a reflux still if that is your aim . I would actually be hesitant to stuff anything inside a feed pipe that small as there is a high risk of puke or grain getting stuc...

Thinking of changing the flex lines to 1/2 copper pipe. Would this be better in making high alcohol spirits? Yes , if there is no copper in it anywhere . Sorry I miss read that you wanted to make higher proof . No , changing the lines won’t help in that respect . I was referring to it helping to re...

Re: How fast is running a still too fast? Signs of condenser not knocking everything down?

Like SS and SS said , if vapour is coming out the spout , you’re stripping too hard .It’s uncondensed vapour filling your room that is the problem . As a rule , if the distillate feels cool to the touch , you’re running fine and safe as ... but you could still crank up the power some more . I...

Have a look at some of the continuous strippers in the Continuous stripper section. https://homedistiller.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=109 I think you have a very very fundamental idea but you are missing all the detail . Yes , you can pump wash into the top of a column and alcohol will come out the to...

I believe stay-brite 8 is better on paper but it will likely not ever make a difference in the field because workmanship matters a lot more than the solder. I agree Zeo . The lead free solder I use only contains Tin and Copper . AFAIK it contains no silver at all . Yet it is strong as anything . Be...

As mentioned , 1/4” is too small and dangerous to use as a condenser for a pot still .
But don’t through it out . It would make a good reflux coil or Deflag coil iff’n you wanted to make a reflux still .
