Re: Big Ass Parrot

Might have a place in a commercial distillery where the larger overall volume of the run will make parrot smearing less of a problem .

I love building things and in all the years I been at this , never needed a parrot . Glass measuring cylinder with a Alc meter in it works fine for me . :ewink:

Re: life span of a keg boiler

Certainly those big old Scottish Copper Pot stills have a use by date and eventually wear thin , but they run everyday . Even then it might take a century . But Copper reacts with Sulphides whereas Stainless does not meaning Stainless will last even longer. Even in a fairly acidic wash ( most are ) ...

Re: Liebig size and element

I control coolant flow with a valve on the outlet . My pump is not up for too much pressure and I distill out side so possibility of a blowout and mess everywhere is minimal But I understand why Chris does it the otherway .

It sure is a great pic . Also interesting how the riser is the same temp rigt up till the liebig . There appears to be now change in colour suggesting that the riser is losing no significant heat and therefore providing no passive reflux . Also of interest is the liebig is pretty much the same colou...

TFFV isn’t very neutral. It’ll be more neutral than a wash made with 6kg sugar / 25L :ewink: Again, it’s not 6kg/25L it’s 20kg’s/100L. This was just the first pot full I made to add all the nutrients and invert some sugar.(6kg’s of the eventual total of 20kg’s) Sorry .Having a bad day

After it ferments , let is settle fir a few days .When you syphon off you can go right down to the hard yeast cake i the bottom . For a stripping run , I generally get about 20% collected volume . So say I’m stripping 200litre wash I’d expect around 40litres of low wines , I’ll use a 50 liter keg to collect and store it in . . As far as capping the keg for storage , I’m about as sophisticated as putting an upturned glass over ...

Re: My condenser is acting strange

You’re using a Hot plate . I think that might be the problem . They cycle the element on and off . When the element is on , there will be more heat applied to the boiler and extra vapour produced . Then it cycles off and the production from the boiler will slow down . You will be fighting a loosing ...

Good bump Butch .
I’m guilty of not using the terminology correctly .

In my defence... Australian Copper is in the minority as it is OD where as most of the world seems to have ID ... I confess to getting my tube and pipes mixed up and hope it does not cause too much confusion at times .

To anneal a length of 1/2” will require a fare amount of heat . It needs to be heated to cherry red hot . You’ll need an oxy torch or at least several MAPP gas canisters and about a few hours . Pre-heating on a LPG gas burner while you apply the MAPP torch will help significantly . Or save it for ma...
