Oregon State University has a program, one of the few colleges I have seen with one. Also you could look into chemistry or microbiology.

Corn Starch?
I recently posted about this in another thread and the idea continued to intrigue me. Would it be viable to use pure corn starch watered down a little and then fermented to make a wash? If so any thoughts as to the final products?

I don't know much on the topic, but corn starch is I believe a fermentable sugar. You could just use pure corn starch boiled into a mash and then fermented. This I don't think would not retain much character. Again though, I am quite a bit of a novice.

I do know that whiskeys or other spirits will not age in the bottle, which is usually glass. So I would apply the same concept. But then again whiskeys are aged in oak prior to bottleing, so go figure.

Keeping track of the wash temperature
How should I best make sure I have an accurate reading of the wash temperature, will the thermometer need to be grounded in the wash itself or just in the interior of the pot? Also on two side notes? Is plumbers putty safe for use as a seal? Is the recommended dumping of the first 50 ml of distillat...
