Re: Plates Plates Plates

I would of thought the answer to the problem was bloody obvious. The size of the holes are far too big, once one ball is lifted by pressure, it causes an immediate pressure drop on the rest. Make the holes under the balls the same size as a normal perf plate and it will work.

Re: Plates Plates Plates

Given the surface area those holes take up, one inch will work better.

Re: Plates Plates Plates

That downcomer is way too small, the area of a downcomer should be the same or greater than the area of the rising vapor tubes or flooding will occur, remember what goes up must be able to come down.

Re: New Bubble Cap Design...

Like this? It looks like three cups with some holes in them. bubble.png I don't think the concept is all that amazing as with all the Still Dragon gear. Arranging things concentrically is a pretty common engineering trick to get multiple uses out of one whole. Unless there's something I'm missing t...

When new ideas arrive, the knockers come out, I know from personal experience with the Magic Flute. Now all of the knockers are using one.

Re: A Cheap Plated Column Section

Every time I see a new column build I am amazed at how many holes are on the plates. More holes mean more power required to support the liquid bath on the plate, you don't need a colander. The Original Flute had 36 holes of 3/32 diameter which will run on 2400w, I am currently running one of my orig...

Re: I think the basic Flute Design is flawed ...

After reading this thread I am a bit dissapointed with the opening title and the comments that followed from a member who I had previously respected. Firstly the Flute design was developed and shared with anyone on this or any other forum to follow. All of the development was done in my shed and was...

Try this one for size, not finished yet, just waiting for a couple of warning lamps to arrive. The top section is for controlling flow to the dephlegmater, and the bottom section for mashing or brewing.

Most houses are plumbed using copper, if it concerns you, you had better get your house re-plumbed with SS tubing.

I am Happy to report that KS is going to ship Big Bert's still at no extra cost. Mike had been out of town for the last week and as soon as he got back and read my email, in the interest of good customer relations, the original agreement stands.

Increasing your boiler size should not make any difference. You probably got some crap which was in the boiler originally. Treat that run as a cleaning run for your boiler.

That was the start of the build before it was named the Magic Flute.
I think there are a few 3"builds here but unfortunately I can't give you any pointers. You will have to search for them.

Read this one, it's where it all started.http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 0#p6834790
PP the hole sized has since been reduced from 1/8" to 3/32"which works a bit better.

Re: Dephlagmator w/3way valve question

I posted this link a few days ago to answer the same question. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 3#p6901643
the bottom cross tube is the water feed to the 3 way valve, it does not enter the main column it just terminates there and acts as a support.
