Re: Not really new but what ever!
I would strive to make better spirits than Tim Smith to be quite honest... Yours is only stronger because you don't dilute down to the industry standard 80 proof... At what proof are you drinking your distilled spirits...??? I like to drink mine at about 50-55% or 100-110 proof. I've only done abou...

Not really new but what ever!
Just rebuilt my still, and I've been making a true corn mash for a few months now, I've been really digging deep on here lately for little things that make distilling ezer. Just wanted to stop by and say thanks to those that have been helpful! To those that are new here, Beware, there are a few very...

Carbon steel question
Ok, I'm rebuilding my bokakob due to some poorly thought out design flaws in my first go! Don't get my wrong, my first boka could pull 89-91% in the first run, so it worked well. However after adding a second condenser after the liquid management valve the added weight on my soldered out spout cause...

Second condenser issues!
I built a Bokakob 2" column still about a year ago... took some time getting me a heat source to my boiler, but shortly after getting it up and running I realized that a second condenser was going to be needed! I build one... Perhaps a bit over kill on size... and was quite pleased with the res...

Re: Turbo Yeast (how long will it live?)
Well I took your advice and tossed out the turbo.. I currently have 10g of wash doing its thing useing Pasteur Champagne dry wine yeast. I'm also gonna make two more batches using both Lalvin EC-1118 yeast as well as Lalvin D47. I might also take yall's advice further and try just some basic baking ...

Water Pumps for reusing cooling water
I'm looking to buy a pump to recycle my cooling water while running my still, and the choices are many and vary in price from 10 bucks to WOW... I don't think so! Was hopping to get some feed back from peeps that do this and find out what kind of pump they use and where I might come to own one and h...

Turbo Yeast (how long will it live?)
I've Been away from here for some time... (about 8 months) and I have had a bag of turbo yeast in my fridge for the same amount of time. I got the bug again and was gonna make some mash but I wasn't sure if the yeast I had would still be good or if I should go buy some more. Anyone have any thoughts...

Re: My first still
Got my Ferrule and tri clamp in the mail. Attempted to braze them together without the proper flux.. man was that frustrating! I go to the hardware store tomorrow to get the proper flux, then I'll have a tower. I'm holding off on installing my drain hose and thermal ports, mainly due to their tardy ...

Re: sour mash
@ Midwest Shinner ~ thanks for the info on yeast. Some recipes just say to use yeast, some give an amount. I was courious about how much to use when making 5gal mash's. This info will help greatly! I"m not disputing that UJSSM will produce decent shine. But just like it says in the recipe... an...

Re: sour mash
One thing that i'm not seeing is How much yeast is needed per batch.. is there a ratio... ex: amount of corn/yeast or amount of sugar/yeast. I'm at least a week away from making my first mash and 2weeks out from my first run.. so i'm trying to fill in the gaps in what I think I know now.

Ok, I'm so new to this I've yet to ever make anything yet. I'm still waiting on parts to finish my boka still, and I'm also still trying to secure a heat source ( be it fire or ele. Leaning more to the ele. but I'm not and electrician.) But that aside I can't run the still without a mash. I chose th...

My first still
Making a Bokakob as my first still. Winding my own condenser and everything. I may even make my own controller for my heating elements. Figured I'd put a few pics up to show how its going. http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/Tom_Antidotum/Still%20shots/Myfirstcondenser_zps3c72d9ec.jpg This is w...

Re: FNG Here!
I'm actually in the middle of constructing my first still and secondly my first time working with copper (minus sweating a pipe together from time to time when the bust under the house). I decided with the boka reflux still. Got the condenser made, went with the cold finger design ( and still though...

Re: Graham Condenser Question
Thanks for the info. I was not aware that a vent was not needed unless the parrot was directly connected. I'm more or less getting way ahead of myself with these questions. I just know how I am and want to know how everything works and why. It looks like i'm going to be building Bokabob Still as my ...

Hay guys, I'm very new to this "Hobby", but I think I'm off to a good start. I'm one 2" ferrule and tri clamp from having a keg still. Just going with a very simple pot still set up. I currently have 3 kegs and if all goes well with my first, I plan to hand craft something similar to ...

Re: Graham Condenser Question
Yes I'm referring to the atmospheric vent. For example, the hillbilly Flute has a vent on his condenser. I'm reasonably good with my hands and am not a novice to welding/brazing, but I don't understand how it works or how it would be put in there. I was hopping someone had a link or could post a sim...

Graham Condenser Question
I'm working on making a flute, I have figured out how to make everything so far, but I don't understand how to make the Graham Condenser "WITH" a vent. If someone could give me a drawing or plans of one with a vent, I can figure out the rest. Any help would be great!
