Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?

I'll add to this... [ Mod Edit: Link to deleted page removed. ] Just grabbed this stuff of a local guy. Wanted the wort and carboy but figured why not grab it all at that price. Can never have too many buckets. Also picket up 2 15.5g kegs from my cousin who got them for a cookout but never returned ...

Re: sweetfeed whisky

I messed up. That's why the output was too low. I should have run longer. I just went in and smelled and tasted a little more. Jar 6 tastes the same as jar 9 and that's where I shut it down because of the tail smell. They all smell the same now even after a short time of airing out. Sooooo.... 1/2 g...

Re: sweetfeed whisky

I'll end up tossing more tails into my final product than normal because I use the neutrals in mixing it into apple pie, peach, key lime pie or lemonade.

Re: sweetfeed whisky

Ran for 2.5 hours on a 6g wash.
So far before airing out I'm smelling 24oz of heads.
45oz of hearts and then started to run into tails.

Seems a little low to me but I think the more I run this the better I'll get at this recipe.

Re: What's your cover story?

The other day I was walking out of a grocery store in my city. Had my brother in law with me and he was carrying 2 cases of qt jars and I had some apple cider and juice with me. Guy walking in took one look, gave us a thumbs up and said "Apple pie, right on brotha!" I'm always trying to fi...

Re: sweetfeed whisky

After 5 hours it's off bubbling nonstop. I have a hose run from the bucket to a 2lt. bottle half full of water as my airlock. Can her it working in the bucket foaming sounds like a hot frying pan. I usually mix all my likker into apple, peach, lemonade or key lime so either way, it's gonna be consum...

Key lime

I make a pretty damn good lemonade and made some changes to come up with a key lime. 12 Cups of water 3 Cups white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 4 Cups bottled Key Lime juice 1 Cup Whipped Cream Vodka 3 Cups 150ish proof likker. Or stronger depending on taste you like. I prefer smooth :) Dissolve the suga...

I'm starting my first wash with this as we speak. Temp is 115 and SG is 1.060. Waiting till 90* to pitch yeast and see what happens.

Re: Way too simple. Help me understand...

Sounds like he has been caught with the turbo sales pitch of the brew shop. Gotcha. I was googling and found this. Seems like this is exactly what he was talking about. http://www.moonshinelife.com/resources/recipes/how-to-make-moonshine/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;&quo...

Re: Way too simple. Help me understand...

Prairiepiss, I basically use the SF steps. I do add sugar. I didn't mean to type "no sugar added. Should have read"a little sugar added."
No idea what I was thinking haha.

For a 6 gallon mash I use 7 lbs of sugar. I don't use 15 like he was suggesting.

Re: Way too simple. Help me understand...

I've been just using cracked corn in the sweet feed recipie.

I use the same process as the SF calls for but used corn instead of SF.

I did pick up sweet feed to try that though.

Re: Way too simple. Help me understand...

Nope. Nothing else. Basically here's what he was telling me to do. 15 lbs of sugar dissolved in 2 gallons of hot water. Add another 4 gallons of cooler water to bring over all temp down enough to pitch yeast. Cover and let ferment. Run after about 6-7 days. Ferment should be done. It honestly tasted...

Is this the stuff to use guys? Because that says pellet and grains.
I'd like to try something other than corn for once hahah.

Re: Way too simple. Help me understand...

Like I said, I haven't tried it like that. I just use grains and no sugar added. I just thought there would be enough in the grains and corn. Basically what he was talking about was cutting out the grains and replacing them with sugar. I tried a sip of what he had and let me just say it was rough. E...

Way too simple. Help me understand...

I've been using corn to ferment and experimenting with other things when making my mash but had a guy tell me I was working too hard. All he does it mix sugar, water and then yeast. I've never tried anything that simple. Is it too good to be true?

Re: Ran into a problem today and have a question

I really want to learn how to make a better mash to get a even better end result. Since it's all mixed it really doesn't matter I guess but I'd still like to improve where I can.

Re: Ran into a problem today and have a question

SG was at .995 This was a simple sugar wash. I don't use turbo, I don't like the harsh taste it gives. I use a distillers yeast. Fermented for 9 days and after the run, let all the jars sit and air out covered with paper towel for 2 days. Makes it easier to make the cuts plus it does let me get the ...

Re: Ran into a problem today and have a question

I collect in 12oz incraments to help make the cuts.
I didn't have time to run anymore this weekend so I just dumped what was in there.

I ended up keeping the 2.5g and it ended up at 145 proof.

Ran into a problem today and have a question

I was running 12g of mash and after about 2.5g of good product, I ran out of propane in my tank. Can I refill the tank and continue from where I left of or what other options do I have? Thanks in advance. I have t had this happen just yet.
