Re: pennies as boiling chips.

Surprised you have copper penny's. We don't as the copper was worth more than a penny, and do you really have penny's in a language that has no pense. This forum sucks big when it comes too 'use the search' comments. I'm sure if this hobby was perfectly legal, peeps would hound newbies for their loc...

Do you think you could stand that on the table and melt glass in? The real question being one of expansion rates and copper elasticity.

Re: Correct pump selection for water cooling?

You need to make sure the return pipe makes a constant fall. If you have a dip with fluid in then that would explain why you can't get a syphon going. Your pump don't have the guts to push that dribble out, because the air it needs to push it through with is too elastic. Good call on going 12v. I'm ...

Forget the capacity of your pump, they are all up to capacity. You need to look at the head. That is how well it can shove water through things.

I will pop back later... I shouldn't be here :shh:

Well the glass is easy but you can't use the lids anyway unless you put a new lining in. I use ptfe sheet to make mine.

Re: Water filter for chlorine and chloramines

When I used distilled water to make some all-bran and another sugar wash, both failed. It wasn't because I tried to rehydrate the dried yeast with it, as I dry pitch. It was lack of nutrients or ph buffering. I dunno.. I had no ph strips.

Some recipe's are tuned to expect food from the tap water.

When it says lead free, it isn't. It is just below the allowable threshold. This threshold varies globally, and even state to state. Calli demands the least.

I would silver solder over it. Pickling is hit and miss and can do more harm than good. As seen from samples sent in by HD members.

Well I got through half hour of it. I couldn't take any more though. I thought it was going to be a science show, but it was nothing of the sort. They couldn't even read the results properly. Must be the third time I have tried to watch one of them shows. So much promise, but the show don't deliver.

If the shotgun tubes stuck out the bottom half inch, they could be slash cut to guide the condense to the packing. I fear much of the condense from the outer jacket may just slip down the column wall doing more harm to your packing temperature gradient than it aids fractioning. Of course, you would ...

Re: Much odor/smell?

It really depends on who's nose we are talking about. Some people drink strong tasting stuff like whiskey while having a smoke and frankly can't smell a thing. Others don't smoke and have a full set of taste buds (only 15% of men) and can smell perfectly well. I can smell a small sugar wash indoors ...

Hello Pal. I have seen some terrible SS exhausts that rusted at the welds in just a couple of years. It is doubtful some is even from the 300 series. Nobody is asking, they are just buying a stainless steel exhaust. It could be anything. If it is listed as 314 I would hope it is though. So it has th...

Re: Proofing apple pie?

How do I proof apple pie moonshine? Doesnt the sugar throw off the hydrometer? You know the proof from what you put in it. For instance, you might put in 300ml of 60% and 300ml of 5% cider with 300ml of apple juice. Then add 175g of sugar and end up with 1000ml of apple pie. About a third of this i...

Re: Effects of Packing in Column W/Out Active Reflux

I hear it won't work quite often, but some pretty simple physics says it will. You can get a much more controllable temperature gradient and the stuffing is more hoops the water vapour must interact with before it can get out. Giving a greater volume of water recondensed and sent back. This is not c...

Re: can you weld on kegs with oxy/acyt gas? or just solder?

Yeah, get it done quick with a torch. As your both aware (but I will say it for others) longer heating times means more extensive heating of the surrounding area, and long term heating pushes the chromium out, meaning your joint will rust. Speed is key to preserving the stainless qualities.

Well if your going to pop in a glass, that is a nice access hole to improve the plates. By which I mean address the drainage.
