Mine started after having a couple of beers with a mate and he said lets try and make moonshine and because i have this obsessive mind that in which i have to know if i can do something and how to. I then ended up here and its probably very lucky i did.

The airing out allows the jars to breath. I am unsure of the scientific reasons all i kno is if ya do it ya can get a better idea of how your jars smell and it seems to produce a nicer product thru my small experience in this hobby. You are right, I didn't really consider the heads. I figured that after 250ml, that was the heads and fore shots. How do you air out the distillate? It seems contradictory since alcohol evaporates. You really haven't read enough if you are really asking how to " air out" i mean its as sim...

It ok just worked it out when back over my notes and something didn't add up... made a very basic mistake misread the intial sg as 1.080 should have been by my calculations 1.180 which is miles too high :-( bugger now its at 1.070 after 11 days may just have to run it and see what happens

Got a problem. My 5th gen wash has stalled i added some tomato paste to liven the yeast back up and it did but my sg isn't dropping been four days now and I'm.unsure of what to do

Just to throw my still in the ring i have a 30lt urn with an 1800 watt element all my piping from the urn thru the thumper then the condensor is 3/4 id tube... on a 21 lt wash i have a 1 hour take off time then i can make roughly 3.5lts of likker in about 3 hours although i shut my still of when the...

Picked up a bag of hygain honey b sweetfeed today. Its a honey coated feed consisting of barley, lucerne chaff, molasses and natural vitamin e made up a 20lt wash time to see how it goes. Can't wait to try it just about to still my 5th gen of odins cf today aswell lifes good...

Made a batch of this last night my recipe was as follows - 500g cornflakea boiiled for 25 mins - 3.5Kg white sugar - 1/2 Cup lowens bakers yeast - 20 lts spring water Basically boil cornflakes for 25 mins in about 10lts of water, put in fermenter add sugar till all disolved. Ok I'm new to the whole thumper thing but i filled my 10lt thumper with 2.5 lts of tails ranging from 50% down ran a 18lt wash and allowed the still to heat the thumper which returned 3.5ltrs of 78 - 80% and then 2 ltrs from 75 down to 65. Thought an update was in order thru the new thumper made 3.5lts @80% 1lt@70% and 1lt@60% still smooth and palatable... my advice make a thumper you will never look back

A 10lt thumper for my pot still and now running a 18lt corn sugar mash thru it with lower hearts and tails in the thumper.

Hi all have been trawling this forum for ages finally decided to join I'm from north of melbourne vic. i have a 20lt pot still made of an old stainless vacola urn running 3/4 copper riser and coil in an ice bath. I have successfully ran a basic sugar wash of 20lt which yielded about 3 lts nice taste...
