Re: When does the flow rate get to before it is uneconomical

I do like these ideas - so much vodka, so little time - who'da thunk it be so hard?

Where can I buy cheap urn taps?

I'm doing some research into building my own still. I noticed that water urn taps are about one-third of the price of a brand new urn. That's expensive! At that rate, I'd rather buy duplicate urns, take the tap off and keep the urn for when the original heating element breaks. Plus I'll get extra li...

Re: When does the flow rate get to before it is uneconomical

Yes, indeed, YHB - thank you. Thank you to everyone else also.

As it happens I do distill into 800ml jars so I can safely get the heads and tails and re-distill the heads and tails - at least until I learn my craft. (Yes, I've done 125ml of fores, first!)

When does the flow rate get to before it is uneconomical?

Okay - I bought a Still Spirits T500 Turbo still. I had to recognise my dilemma of wanting to start learning the art of distilling while being almost completely inexperienced, despite the reading and viewing of videos I have done. So I decided to buy one while I learn and make one when I understand ...

Hi, also from the UK. We need more of us.

I, too, brew wine, etc. I'm just sad I didn't start 40 years ago.

Newbie Q's Please - Die-hards please look away

I've done a lot of reading here and on the parent site (for days), I've even Goofled my queries with no luck: From the UK, does anyone know of a UK-based supplier for a copper or food-grade 2" stainless steel tube? Welding is not an option. Does anyone know where I can get tried and tested 100%...

Thanks for the post, Odin. Was referred to you by another member here.

I'm looking to use A48 while I learn how to do a grain mash.

Re: new guy - alcotec48 - 2 tsps to ferment 5 gallons?

Wow, Priariepiss, you have saved me a major amount of time. THANK YOU. I was aware of the tried and tested board but hadn't had time to explore it fully. As was kindly suggested before, I need to read and re-read, and that's what I'm going to do. I'll get the goodies asap and write up a diary here. ...

Yes, thanks WW - I'd read about that here and am looking into doing this - I'll do another search for a how to.

Thanks for the heads-up

I'd go for un-informed as I haven't seen this as the cardinal sin to commit here! :egeek:

But you're right - I'm still reading and will continue to read until I am well-versed. :silent:

Re: new guy - alcotec48 - 2 tsps to ferment 5 gallons?

@ pounsfos - Exactly. I couldn't put it better if I tried. My intent is to keep a 250ml sample of each vodka run I do - labled and recipe'd up in my book. I already make my own fruit wines so I have an idea for the need of complete records. The turbo's are to fill my need in the short term while I l...

Z Filter - Rate or Hate? Cheaper Refills?

I'm expecting that I will need a carbon filter, especially as I will be using turbo yeasts to begin with (ahem! sorry!) to make Vodka in a T500 reflux. The Z filter has been recommended to me. Have you tried it? Do you like it? Is there something better (other than making a better mash to begin with...

Re: new guy - alcotec48 - 2 tsps to ferment 5 gallons?

Thank you both. A lot, actually. I'm gonna hang fire on my questions until I've done all the reading I need to. I got the turbos partly because I'm a newbie and partly because I want some product. I expect - as all newbies should - that learning will come by doing and I'll be making the same mistake...

Errmmm....sorry about the name guys - it was pure frustration of me yelling at the computer. I'm nothing to do with fed's (not being USA-based) but I'm willing to change my name if the Admin are kind enough to do it on my behalf. "Reflux_Attack" would be nice, pretty please!

I like to think I'm fair and try to give back where I can. I'm disabled and not on any form of income. I'd still like to donate (in January) because of the efforts of the forum masters here and also the home page of the distilling website (not forum). The owner says he'd like to take his wife out fo...

new guy - alcotec48 - 2 tsps to ferment 5 gallons?

Hi Guys, I'm entirely new on the block - and I'm reading as much as I can. In fact, I've set aside 5 days (ie 10am - 4pm) just to read up. However, there's always a question.....and any help is welcome, please. I'm using Alcotec 48 for the first time. By chance I happened at a review that stated cle...

Wow. What an incredibly difficult sign up process. Almost a punishment for letting my previous sign-up here lapse.

I'll be sure to sign in often from now on.

Hi to all, see you around.
