Re: White oak or red
Leaves are not from the split wood.. I will make some pieces up and toast them and try it in a small jar. Thanks all I was thinking it was white but needed some more opinions. I'll be sure to try to blow thru a chip too.

I've froze it in milk jugs for a few months and pulled it out and boiled it for use. No Problem.. After a whole lot of months I imagine it would get a freezer burnt taste thou.

Re: Distilling beer
It wasnt terrible beer, I just have high standards. With 6 kegs in the fridge and more waiting, if one of them doesnt rock my world it gets dumped, otherwise it will just sit in there and take up a slot until I find someone who likes it to pawn pints off on LOL. Life's too short for mediocre beer. ...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method
It may or maynot? Depends on the ABV. If the total ABV with the potential of the sugar and what feints was added. Is less then 14% ABV. You should be fine. It would be much better if it was lower then 12% ABV. But most yeasts will be fine up to 14%. Worse case it doesn't finish as low as the first ...

Re: RIMS made easy
Looks good. But needs a tee on the output for a temp sensor for the pid controller. The temp sensor is at the input to the mash tun to negate the losses between the RIMS and the mash tun. Perfect. The 4500w on 110 maybe a little under powered depending on your mash size. I use a 110 1500w on a 10 g...

Re: Distilling beer
JBR-how much if any aging did you do? One run through a reflux or several through a pot still? Try adding any chips yourself for more flavor? Thanks. Was a slow run on the pot still. I did not get much from it I only had 4 gal at like 5%. So alittle over 1/2 quart of drink. I drank it white no agin...

Re: Distilling beer
I did a really dark oatmeal stout a few months ago. Actually turned out excellent tons of flavor none of which resembled hops. But the IBUs were low and tons of dark malt
Good luck

Re: sweetfeed whisky
My self I would add the feints to the next spirt run. But yes if added to the stripping run it would increase yield and abv if the wash was at the same original abv and volume as the last. If you were looking for more souring from the wash add them to your stripping run. If not I add them to the spi...

Re: strawberry panty-dropper
Id cut them in half. Smooshing will make a slurry thats hard to filter out. If cut in half, the alcohol will have access to, and suck out all the flavor from inside. If left whole, the protective skin on the berry will be doing its job very fine thank you. :) This is my opinion, based on my experie...

I just made up 2 jars 1 mixed berry and the other blueberry. The question I got is should I give the blue berries a smoosh or leave them whole?

Re: sweetfeed whisky
Thanks for all the input. The last run i made had quite bubbling, but not settled completely. It was the best of the three i have made, and the highest proof as well, go figure. I am inclined to run this one and see how it goes, it will be 10 days before i can get back to it. the dirt tracks in Flo...

I really don't see a problem with half baked's post. What he said is exactly how I took it. But I have been called a prick many times. Maybe try leaning away from the heads a little more. Way better product! Told ya!! Haha glad ya had a good run I usually air out for a day or two and make my cuts. I almost always get 15-16 200ml out of a run, single strip and adding feints from previous run. Keeping jar 4 which is 82% to 12 which it usually around 58% slightly into the tails. Then w...

Airlocked and don't open it till ready to use. There's still active yeast in there don't seal it up. There starving but still active. Did you have any issues getting the film out of your vessels? Re: sweetfeed whisky
My experience with the oil in it never got any clearer. But ran just fine. I tried running 1 run twice nice and slow but always was had a off smelling and taste.. So I tried doing a stripping run and a spirt and much better product.. So I built a smaller pot the size of what I get off a 5-6 gal strip.

Hey I just remembered a question I had.... I racked off apx 11 gallons to let clear today. I noticed there was a slight oily film on the top. Is this normal? Not sure as my lid and kettle are flat faced. But it did flatten out big time once it was heated. In my large kettle I actually use a tefoseal and that shrinks ever time I use it. I stretch it to fit everytime

Re: new gasket idea? PTFE hose??
Pretty much nothing bonds to ptfe even double sided tape barely does. I put a length of ptfe rod inside the pfa to align the joint. Before I melted it together. Most likely the tubing that you are looking at is pfa which is considered Teflon and is bendable. Ptfe tubing I only used a few times and i...
