Re: 2" Flute?
Ive never pushed to see how quickly I could do a complete run, never felt the need to really. Looking at my notes all the runs that have been more than 4 hours have been 4 plates along with a 24" packed section runs. Running just plates my notes indicate closer to 3.5 hours total with the first...

Re: 2" Flute?
2" is doable with perf plates and will work fine. Ive been running a 2' flute for a few months now with no known problems, speed is good, flavor is good, abv is good. Im running 4 plates and usually pull around 90-92% at the begginnig of hearts and drops to about 80% before the tails hit and th...

Re: still porn
Well-being modular also known as ever-changing I have upped to a 4 plate section so now I can run as a packed CM with either marbles or SPP as 12, 20, 32, 40, or 52" sections plus anywhere from 0 to 4 plates below the same packed section lenghts within the limits of my ceiling height.

Re: Goofy things I do
Elbows do not create a liquid trap, the plate would constantly drain and would never load.

Re: Goofy things I do
To explain the drawing a little better going from the top down you have your downcomer tube, a short section of tube that is larger than the diameter of the downcomer, the bold line is a round piece soldered to the bottom of the larger tube that creates the bottom of the cup, if you use 3/4 for the ...

Re: Goofy things I do
Cranky what size are you using for your downcomers 1/2" I have a 2 1/2" OD glass flute section that I made perf plates for. I used 1/2" for the downcomers, I didn’t center them but I used a section of 3/4 copper tube with a flat piece soldered to the bottom to make a cup for my downco...

Re: Heating Element Control
Frodo check out Jimbos electric conversion thread. You can order a basically premade SCR contoller from ebay or amazon now for around 20 bucks, if Im not mistaken it now comes with a cooling fan already installed so all you have to do is install your element to your boiler, add plugs and add the con...

Re: DL69-2048 Multi-functional Digital-Display Meter
I agree with Skow, great explanation, thanks. One more question would it affect accuracy or be somewhat counterproductive if you were to connect the voltage circuit as we have established, before the controller, and then put the current transformer donut on one of the hot legs after the SCR controll...

Re: DL69-2048 Multi-functional Digital-Display Meter
Edwin thanks for posting this. I got mine hooked up and Im no electro physicist but I think I understand what the active power, and power factor are, do you care to explain what apparent power is. My understanding is active power translates to basically wattage for instance my element is 4500w and w...

Re: DL69-2048 Multi-functional Digital-Display Meter
Quick question on this. Ill be hooking up to 240v two phase. Im guessing I will need to run a lead from 1 side of the green terminal to 1 of the hot wires on each phase. So green terminal left to hot1 and green terminal right to hot2? I have the 10000w scr from fleabay with a dual pole switch before...

Re: White foam
Well guess I was wrong. Neverless post fermentation infections are not always bad. The infection I had began looking similar to this (a white coating on top that trapped bubbles under it like the one pictured) and as it progressed it then moved down into the wort and crated the strings of gooey spid...

Re: White foam
I could be wrong, but that looks like a classic lacto infection, not really a bad thing. Some of the most flavorful stuff I’ve produced was similarly infected, If you don’t sanitize your fermenter’s well it will continue to appear.

Re: Showing off my parrot
I use 1/4" in and out of mine and have had no problems at all. Just looking at your inlet tube I would venture to guess that the short portion right before it enters the body looks almost level, If you could bend the inlet tube to have more of a slope in that portion I would think it wouldn’t b...

Re: Cheap copper for immersion chiller
The early birds got the worm. IMO its a little too small for a worm, but it worked great to make an immersion chiller with  it was legit, brand new 50' roll of 3/8 OD, I picked up a cheap set of washing machine hoses and a couple clamps, I now have a great new copper chiller for all of $2...

Re: Best thing to raise PH
I get Calcium Hydroxide at my local gorcery store in the canning section, next to the mason jars. It is labeled as "Pickling Lime" $2-3 for a 1lb bag just sprinkle a little (~1/2 cup at a time in 15 gallons) right in the wash if I need to raise PH. I have basically stopped adding backset o...

Less than 3/4 full maybe 10 gallon total of grain and liquid. Mt thumper is 2in from boiler to thump 1" downtube inside thump. 2 in pot still with 12 in riser.
