Re: corny keg (cornelius keg)
Do you guys think you could just wrap PTFE tape over the rubber gasket 3-4 rounds to make it safe for the alcohol vapor?? Might make a good aging vessel, could even sample as it's ageing through one of the ports, not pressurized of course..

Re: sugar mixing theory
Today I dissolved 40 pounds of sugar into 4 gallons of water, I ended up with 6 gallons volume after it was dissolved fully, done in a turkey fryer.. Granted that is a lot of sugar for only 4 gallons of water.

Re: new alembic inspired build ?????
Well, the still went to it's new home yesterday. The friend I built it for decided that he actually wants it  , I was hoping he was going to forget about it. Maybe someday when I have some extra cash and somewhere to use it I'll make my own. I think he is going to join this wonderful forum...

first cleaning runs..
Did the vinegar/water run and then just water run, next up the SAC run.. The vinegar/water run I put no water in my worm and just steamed everything out, and for the water run I filled up the worm bucket. One question though. On the plain water run It took me 55 min to get the water to start coming ...

Thanks Hound Dog. The worm thankfully has good constant slope, but the picture is a bit deceiving, I took several pictures of the worm but couldn't get just the perfect picture angle to make it not look funny. Still waiting on my ferments to finish, then I can do all of the cleaning and sac runs and...

NEW PARROT
I made a new parrot with a little different design. I tried to have the inlet and the outlet brace each other versus each have there own brace. I will hopefully change the stainless cup at the inlet for copper once I find a nice replacement copper cup. parrot 1 (600x800).jpg parrot 2 (600x800).jpg p...

I.D. or O.D.? 1/4" I.D is what I have. Maybe 3/8" ID would be better.

is 1/4" tube too small for parrot inlet????
Is 1/4" tube too small of the inlet that goes to the bottom of the 1" dia vertical tube? Also same for the outlet? I have some scrap left over and didn't want to buy anymore copper..
Thanks

Re: air lock question
So far it hasn't done anything. I think it is stalled. it is only about 60-65 deg in that room, so that probably isn't helping. I may have to try the bottle next time.
Thanks
Thanks

I'll see what i can do on the temp.
Ill check the SG in a couple days and see what it is at, it was at 1.075 at the beginning.
My other grape concentrate wash started at 1.085, ill have to check it too.
Thanks

So if you wanted a fast ferment what temp would you want it at? Does this affect the end resulting quality?

Re: First wash issue, HELP!
Thanks guys, I guess I will have to find a way to raise the temp. It's in my basement in a un-heated area. Ill try a test sample tonight and see what is going on. I started a different wash last night with grape juice concentrate and it was starting to go after just a hour, BUT I used EC1118 yeast f...

Re: First wash issue, HELP!
Nothing has started yet... This would be about 36 hours now. If you look at the top of the wash you should be able to see something happening right? This batch has a lot of head space 13gal in 55 gal drum, would this make any difference? Temp right now for it is probably 65 deg. Could I just add mor...

Re: First wash issue, HELP!
Thanks for the reply.
Does the amount if yeast seem right then? I just followed the gallon amount on the packet. 3 packets@5 per=15gal
The yeast I already had and thankfully is for my SAC run.
I wish I could find a really fast sugar wash ferment for my first couple trial learning runs.

First wash issue, HELP!
Did first wash last night 13 gal batch in 55 gal fermenter -46 cups sugar -13 gal water -15 cups crushed frosted flakes -3 yeast (5gram) packets, red star Pasteur red sugar was inverted with equal parts water, then flakes and balance of water was added. This cooled right away to about 87 deg so I pi...

I was actually going to do the ping pong ball style, but unfortunately they were out of ping pong balls local, so plan B it is... We will see how it works, I just pitched the yeast, so hopefully in a couple hours we will see some action.

air lock question
Any one see any reason why this won't work? 2" threaded hole in barrel lid, adapted down to 1 1/2", water filled trap. May cover top of output hole with something to keep crap out of the water trap. Cost a total of $8.00 for fitting. Just getting ready for my first ferment. air lock (600x8...

Re: new alembic inspired build ?????
Finally made some progress. I wired up the heating elements, one with a 220v plug and the other with the 110v plug. The 220v will be used during warm up and then I have a converter cord that I made to switch the 220v plug to 110v. During the run I will most likely have one @ 110v just on and the oth...
