Re: Apple Pie Moonshine
I make mine stronger than most, you really can't taste the difference but it sneeks up on you after one tall glass, and it is a hit with my family. Below is my recipe since it doesn't last long and I make my own cider I make it in a larger quantity. The apple pie recipe I settled on is a modificati...

Apple Pie Moonshine
I had a few pints of untouched shine left over and was in the mood for something new, so I made some "apple pie moonshine" this weekend. So simple but this stuff tastes delicious! You can increase/decrease quantity of ingredients per your taste, but since I only had about 1.5 pints of shin...

First Rum Run
After a few moonshine and whiskey runs, I wanted to try my hand at rum. For my first attempt I used a standard recipe for some monkey rum made from 100% molasses. For anyone interested, one of the best prices I found for some good quality, sulfur-free blackstrap molasses was online through "Web...

Re: Vinegar...Sacrificial...Finally, Spirit
sounds like a textbook 'ripper run, i'll bet the jars around 100-120 will be pretty sweet all on their own without a double distill spirit run. congrats on your success!  are you going after something with a bit of grain in it next? maybe suggest a UJSSM, it's been a great recipe to bu...

Vinegar...Sacrificial...Finally, Spirit
Well, Monday marked my first spirit run! It was a painful wait but well worth it: I completed the cleansing/vinegar run 2 weeks ago, my sacrificial run last weekend, and a simple moonshine recipe yesterday afternoon. I've a 5 gallon Alembic copper still and used a 33,000 BTU propane burner as my hea...

Re: Keeping Condenser Water Cool on an Alembic Still
Just run your cooling water hose in at the top of the reservoir and extend the end of the hose to the bottom of the reservoir and use the top outlet to take off the warm water as you normally would. Thanks for confirming what I was thinking of. Wasn't originally sure if clamping a hose and letting ...

Keeping Condenser Water Cool on an Alembic Still
Hey Folks, I completed an initial cleansing vinegar run yesterday in advance of my first sacrificial run next weekend. I already learned that an induction cooktop won't cut it and have already ordered a suitable propane burner based on researching your recommendations in the forum. The photo attache...

Re: New VA Distiller
AC, thanks for the welcome. I've definitely read a great deal of the pros / cons and will likely move on to a more efficient heat source in the future. I was hoping to use the induction burner as a temporary indoor mechanism in the short term while still experimenting and getting used to the practic...

New VA Distiller
Hey Folks, Wanted to take a moment and introduce myself to the community. I've been reading/researching/reviewing this forum for a few weeks, but now that I'm set up and starting my first vinegar run today, I figured it's the perfect time to officially register. I've brewed beer for a few years, but...
