Problem soldering stainless

I'm in the process of soldering a bowl to the stock pot lid. The solder is just rolling on top of both of them. I've cleaned, sanded, and fluxed. It just won't stick. What do I do? Any tips? I've done researched so don't jump all over me for not researching.

Re: My First Still Build (Stock Pot)

How, may I ask, are you planning to mate your copper pipe to the lid of the stock pot? I'm putting a bowl on the lid first. But same concept when your using just the lid. I'm taking a male and female adapter and putting the male end through the washers for spacers. Then I'll put the female on the b...

Re: My First Still Build (Stock Pot)

If you think silcone is an acceptable material to use, you probably haven't done enough reading here. You should probably take a step back and do the reading that Rad suggested in his post before proceeding. You've made some good steps with what you have so far. You just need to do the reading and ...

Re: My First Still Build (Stock Pot)

Ok, here's what I'm doing. I'm getting a SS bowl and some high temp food grade silicone for the gasket. I am going to connect them with SS rivets for a permanent connection. Sound good?

Re: My First Still Build (Stock Pot)

When I first built my stock pot still I added a stainless bowel to the top. A 3"x12" pipe for the column to attach a lyne arm and product condensor. While your condenser is the worm line, the bowl attached will work well. I attached the bowl drilling holes about 1" apart then connect...

Re: My First Still Build (Stock Pot)

Thanks guys. I spent some time bending the worm that's for sure. As for the cooling water, I will be sitting it in a 5 gallon bucket feeding it with cold water from another bucket by just dumping it in. No hoses or anything. And yeah, joining the lid and copper pipe will be hard. Do you guys recomme...

The worm (I really like how it turned out with the supports and stuff. Re: Whats up guys?

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, we sunk some money and bought the 15 gallon pot. We figured we needed to go decent size or go home! Haha. But I think I'm going to go get 20ft instead of 15ft. Just a little bit of insurance to make sure no vapor escapes!! I will post pics of our setup once it's up and b...

Whats up guys?

Whats up? New guy here going by Ky_backwoods. I am just now getting into my own distilling. We just recently bought a stainless steel 15 gallon stock pot. Today I went and got 15ft of 1/2in copper tubing. Will that be enough to condense the whiskey? Or do we need 20ft? Well glad to be here!!
