Moving them from the hottest part of the house to a old fridge turned to the coldest setting once a week really helps mimic the natural expansion and contraction of the wood.
Basically you can simulate years of seasonal change in just a few months.Or hell I could be talkin out my ass.

Re: Is stillin in your family tree?

That's pretty cool. It's always interesting to learn about your heritage. A relative traced our roots back to England, and learned our family came to America on the Mayflower. Definitely learn some interesting stuff from geneology. As for shiners in my history, haven't found much on that. However, ...

If the still is rendered down to the point that it cant and wont function then it is only an historical art piece. If the cap is soldered solid the worm is soldered shut
then it is a non functioning piece.

Re: Illegal Still States

A couple of fellas have beat prosecution because they had parts.A worm can be used for heat exchange in a wood burner to heat your water.
Like keg jam stated a liebig could and I do believe would be a problem kegs can and are used in aging wine in.And a big ol pot is used for doing all grain beer.

I put 10 gal in boiler at 12% then added the other gallon of 12% plus 2 gal of feints to thumper not sure what % the feints were.
Even with that I still could not come up with the numbers the op is saying he is getting.
