Re: Living Off the Grid
Hello MadMasher, Becoming less dependant on the grid starts with an honest assessment of what you are dependant on the most, and than building from there. For most it is obviously electricity. To replace the freezer, build a pantry/cellar and start canning meat and veggies. What about water? do you ...

"For most foods, contact with galvanized steel is perfectly safe. Only acidic foods should not come in contact with galvanized steel according the the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. The acid in some foods reacts with the zinc coating to form salts that are readily absorbed by the body and...

Newbie Theory on Column fittings
Hello all, After reading DAD300's thread on Condenser Controlled Column stills, I have settled on that variation of the VM design. I am a huge fan of the K.I.S.S. concept and it fits well in those parameters. While my heart was set on a 3", the added cost of copper has me settled on a 2" w...

Re: Is this stainless steel?

BUT they were simply tin plated. Not saying that is the case here, but these cans looked gorgeous and nice and shiney, as soon as ...

Re: Hello........ and WOW!
Thanks everyone, here is a pic... 12" Dia and about 20" tall. It has had a few repairs and could use a couple more after a good bath. It was my Great-Great-Aunts and was used inTennessee prior to and long after prohibition. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/Garand69/GEDC0150_zps71debd8...

Hello........ and WOW!
I have been lurking around here and the parent site for a few days now and all I can say is Holy Schnike!! I have had a life long interest in the "Art of Moonshining" so to speak and even fooled around with it a bit in my younger years using the Foxfire book for some guidance, though never...

Re: 2" copper 180*
While I have never tried this on Copper, I would think sand bending would work for 2" copper. With sand bending you tightly pack the tubing with DRY sand and cap each end. For steel motorcycle pipes, you use a rosebud torch to heat it up and slowly bend it around a form shaped the way you want ...
