Re: Distillate clouds upon dilution
I have this same issue but no solution for you.. but what I do is do not dilute - when I bottle the stuff I just leave it full strength and then I drink it neat with about a 1/4th of water mixed in..

Re: Jimbo's Electric Conversion
I have done this conversion and have done a few runs with it - burnt out my first controller so had to run from outlet straight to heating element in keg - turned out the take off rate was pretty good. So now I have a new 10000 watt controller but was wondering if anyone knows what the switch is nex...

Make sure you apply the paste as soon as you seal the boiler - this give it a chance to dry before the steam hits it..

The barrels are not safe - glyphosate is only safe to use on the food we eat ... It is used in the fields on corn - like the kind at TSC - so it ends up in the fermenter anyway - kind of ironic..

Chicken got loose in the garage and I chased it out but on the way out it ran past the collecting jar and knocked it over and the contents caught fire on the cement and the bird scorched its tail on the burner on the way out.. I had about 30 gals of water for cooling so no big deal - plus it was hea...

Re: NChooch's Carolina Bourbon
This is my second go round with this recipe.. I have a 15 gal pot boiler and use 15 lbs corn with 7 smoked barley and a little rye thrown in. It sure is a LOT of work.. Anyway I have about 3-6 gallon fermenters laying around and somehow I saved the trub from a few of the cleared mashes - about 12 ga...

Re: Effects of water on the mash
You mean you can stop distilling? Why would anyone do that? I am actually thinking about switching to roof water - what do I have to lose.. Only thing is that the tap water is hot so I have a head start on getting it boiling.. roof water is cold as it is cold outside. But at least no fluoride or chl...

How about a rain barrel - collect water of the roof. For bourbon it gets boiled anyway to cook the corn.

Gotcha Rad.. clean still.. FWIW I do not think the big guys with their stills spend anytime cleaning them out though, I think theirs are also caked with stuff. I don't think anyone goes into those big stills with a power washer and hoses them down - that's why I do not feel the need to clean mine.. ...

Re: Chinese made stills
Thanks for the clarification. So I guess a copper worm would do the trick? But I suppose the more copper the better. My boiler is stainless but my collector on top is copper - it is so caked with grain and stuff/gunk that I don't think any vapor even touches the copper anymore. But my worm is pretty...

I think what people do not realize about GMO crops is they are called 'roundup ready' this means they will grow in soil that has been drenched in roundup weed killer. This means before planting the crop they spread roundup weed killer throughout the entire field. This crap then enters the water syst...

Not sure is anyone has thrown this variation in yet so here goes..
I have two fermentation's going at once usually - an all grain for bourbon and of course UJSSM. I use my AG backset in my UJ - brings some AG flavor over and of course use it hot so I can melt the Sugar..
That is all!
