Re: MY NEW POT STILL "WITH PARTIAL REFLUX" need suggestion
As Ive already said ..worrying about water temperatures and thermometers is only going to confuse hell out of you as a newbie and with that still..........learn to run the thing using your senses, ears , eyes, smell, taste and feel. Some time in the future you may become a good distiller that way ....

Re: Oats! Professions of love and some interesting reading.
I love me some oats, my go to bill is 43% corn, 43% 2 row and 14% crimped oats. I just did a strip on an ag vodka for the wife that was 70% oats and 30 % wheat malt, i had a taste of the hearts and it's very promising with amazing mouthfeel, I'm leaving some flavor in this vodka-ish drink.

Re: MY NEW POT STILL "WITH PARTIAL REFLUX" need suggestion
The coil on the outside is no different than a water jacket style RC, other than it's less efficient.

Re: MY NEW POT STILL "WITH PARTIAL REFLUX" need suggestion
I run my PC water from a separate tank, I feed the RC water in the top and use a cheap needle valve on the water output side to control reflux. My coil is 3/8 o.d. x 0.319 i.d. ( I work in the air conditioning industry, we use different sizes than plumbing) it's held in place by spring tension due t...

Re: MY NEW POT STILL "WITH PARTIAL REFLUX" need suggestion
I have a similar rig and it makes a fine whiskey, however your coil needs to be at the top, above the packing. My still head is only 16" tall, I have an extension but rarely use it. I pull 170-180 proof quite easily.

Re: My grain malting setup. aka: Bride of Mashimizer
Nice work Fart! I've been wanting to build something similar, right now I only malt 5-10 lbs at a time. A set up like that would save so much time.

Re: Scored a couple more!
I have two cut out like this, works great for mashing or heating water, I also have one set up as an electric boiler. I also have a short 7.5 gallon that I use to age whiskey in. So many ways to use them.

Re: Best AG Whiskey Grain Bill and Mashing Technique
My mash tun works great, my go to recipe is 15lbs cracked corn, 15 lbs malted barley and 5 lbs of crimped oats. I have one with a bazooka tube but it does clog, I made this one to have a large surface area and it worked out well.

Thanks for sharing rager, I'm a huge fan of modern bluegrass and Floyd so this is fantastic. There are so many good bluegrass covers of rock songs out there, it seems I find new stuff all the time.

I've never tried it with whiskey but if I were making rum I'd say if it smells good, go for it. Are you planning on using this in a bourbon mash? As to your ? I have no idea what kinds of critters you have in there.

Re: Steam rolled barley
I use crimped oats quite a bit and they seem to do fine, I've never tried rolled barley as I can't find it here. I would imagine there's not much difference in the process of the two, but I don't know for sure, I'm interested to see how this works for you Shine, good luck! Edit: the oats I buy looks...

Re: looking for info on this doubler design
The radiator could've been used to help cool the water, It's all really just a guess as it's long gone I'm sure, but I would loved to have checked it out in person. Hell it could be in a local museum for all I know, I'll see what I can find out.

I agree Hilltop, I think it would be a waste of time and copper but it does appear to show 2 coils although one looks like it's been roughed up a lot. People do strange things sometimes....who knows. If memory serves me right, the article said this bust happened in town in the basement of home. I've...

Here is a few more pics, the orifice is just a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" tube adapter with a press in orifice that I made with a 0.0625 hole in it. I made a small metal strap with a 1/8" NPT female thread and welded it across the end of the belled spear opening, I could've went a little smalle...

Thanks, I'm currently working on a single plated rig (along the lines of Mr P's fu man)that I will be needing more power for, so the burner was the only way I could get there as I don't have access to 220v atm. As far as efficient, well it's better than what I had, 3 hour strips are welcome compared...

Keg spear burner
This isn't really a build thread, just thought I'd share in case other folks might find some use from it. I have ran electric from the get go, but was limited to 110 volts and it was painfully slow, so I decided to go to propane but with the drain in the bottom of my boiler it was gonna be tricky. I...

I try to do my corn the night before, I boil the water add the corn hold it at 180-190 for 30 minutes then flame out and let it set overnight, when I come back out in the morning it's still usually around 130° or so then I add the rest of my water for my malted grains which should bring my temp on d...

Re: Soap bubbles like forming inside my pot still
I can't see inside my pot, but when you boil beer it will foam up. If the boiler is too full it can/will puke. I would imagine that it's normal, the agitation probably kept it to a minimum, just my guess.
