Re: Try'n to quit the dip...
I finally quit. Chewed in junior high school, then high school, then the military, then when I got out... It was tough, man. I got headaches, shaky hands and the irritability everybody mentioned. It took about a month for the headaches to go away. My wife told me to go buy more so I wouldn't be such...

Rebnavy,
Bigbob's suggestion to check out Cranky's post was a great one. It should answer a ton of questions. Sounds like you're off to a great start with your brewing experience. I'm a little jealous. Welcome!

Re: Element Size for 12 gallon washes
Check. That's what I was coming up with as well. That is way too long to wait. I've thought about getting 10G extenion cord(s) but the garage is a long way from the house. What is the longest run you would recommend for this setup with 10G wire? I've been dealing with the same problem. I'm almost d...

mash beer? hops dont tend to make for good likker from what I've read. +1.... I wouldn't run it. Not worth fouling up your rig with the hop oils and then having to spend the extra time cleaning the hell out of everything. You'll find more people telling you not to run it than you will encouraging y...

Hell no! Go for it! That's a great size. I like to run bigger batches like you mentioned. Easier for me to make my cuts with more jars available to compare to one another. I have 13 and 25 gallon pots.

Welcome Dood! Before you decide on what still design to go with, I suggest reading about DAD300's still. There's a link to his build in his signature. Lots of good information- I learn something new each time I read the thread. I have a pot still but will soon be building something based off of his ...

EcoPlus makes pumps that start below $20 and they come with several attachments for various hose connections/configurations. Available online at Amazon (~$21 for a 396 GPH) and at hydroponic shops. They're affordable enough for me to be able to keep a spare on hand when I make my runs.

Re: Second rum wash - First Buccaneer Bob's recipe
Hey Googe......Good question, I'm using a recirculating water system and the pump picked up a small obstruction just enough to stop the impeller. Which has me thinking about coming up with some sort of prefiltering box before the pump's simple filter. Davel, They sell nylon mesh bags at hyd...

Jedneck, have you ever tried the Cheerios Multigrain? Mamacita found two-packs of it at the 99 Cent store. I thought I'd try it for a neutral... Don't want to hijack the post but I just had to ask.jedneck wrote:I have used just about any cereal. With my favorite being shredded wheat.

My condolences. Those who served in WW 2 were made of a different mettle than today's folks. Truly special people. I lost my grandfather about 10 years ago, he was a drill sergeant in WW 2. It's sad to see those special people go. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Try EBay. I just saw an ad where a guy was selling 2" for $14.50 per foot. The seller is schnappstills, has good feedback ratings. Not sure if it will work for you, but my buddy was able to buy his kegs from a small burger joint in town. The owner sells him his kegs for $30 each whenever he ne...

Welcome SmogDog, I ordered my equipment from Mile Hi as well. The strong odor probably was the turbo yeast. I used it for my sacrificial run as well and it smelled much different than runs I do now with baker's yeast. The heads smell a lot stronger or "hotter" than the hearts do. That could be part of the smell too. Airing out your future runs for a ...

Clawhammer Supply has some how to videos posted on their web page. They start off with safety topics, tools needed, then take you through the process of putting together one of their pre-made kits. Gives you a good idea of how to do a copper still.
