Re: Grey Meadows Electric Controller
Deuce, I'm not quite sure I understand the question... :? But here goes. I think the switch you are asking about is the 120 to 240 relay. The relay is controlled by a switch on the panel. The only thing this relay does is switch one leg of the power to the heater element from neutral to -120 thereby...

The answer to this question can be found with a little research on your own. You should notice in the header of this and every page a Menu Bar and one of the items there is "HD Google Search". Click on that link and you will open a new browser window; add your search term cleaning run to t...

googe, That is a very interesting question and at first I wasn't sure of the answer. After a little research on my favorite source (the internet, if it wasn't true they wouldn't print it...) It appears the "Yankee" (or "Yank") was a termed coined by the British for Colonist circa...

Re: Keg with 3 inch Tri clover ?
I have been looking into switching my beer fermenters to SS and I think I can put together a setup that would work as a fermenter or a boiler. That way if anyone asks; its a fermenter.

Re: Keg with 3 inch Tri clover ?
Mr. Piss That is beautiful. A couple of questions; Did you start with a new keg, that one looks in very good shape. I assume the polishing was your doing. And how did you get the bottom collar cut off? And another. When you weld the Tri-Clamps on, did you weld the tri-clamp flush to the surface or d...

Re: Electric heating elament & controler ?
John, whatever way you go, make sure that you get the Ultra Low Watt Density element. Otherwise you will be making carmel (or burnt brittle) on the element. The largest 120V Ultra Low Density element I saw in a quick search was 1500 Watt / 120V / 12.5 amps.

Re: Going electric
If you do this you will need two seperate 110V circuits. In that case why not go ahead and use 2 out of phase circuits and get 220V. You would need to use bigger wire for the higher currentTo compensate for the lower wattage you could install two elements in your keg and run both for heat up

Re: Going electric
Semo The problem with 110V is you will have to be very patient. A 5500 Watt 220V element will yield about 1375 at 110V. Based on the app on the parent site (Pot Calc 2), it will take about 2 hours to heat 10 gallons to boil, after that the 1375 will work fairly well. I would definitely sugguest the ...

Re: Hydrometer Vs Alcoholmeter
The Refractometer, Hydrometer and Alcoholmeter are all different tools with different uses and different scales. The Refractometer is used to measure the sugar content of the solution prior to fermentation by measuring the refraction of light through the solution. The Hydrometer is used to measure t...

Re: Looking for a SS Welder in NE Georgia or SE SC
Athens is about 3-4 hours away. A bit too far. I have done quite a bit of research into the SS welding and I am aware of the inert gas requirements, both at the weld site and on the backside of the weld. "Sugaring" is what the welders call in, but the actual process is the oxidation and re...

Looking for a SS Welder in NE Georgia or SE SC
Hello, I am in the process of building another boiler, this one a 15.5 g Keg. My previous welder did not do a very good job and I am looking for other options.
So, do any of you know of a welding in the NE Georgia or SE South Carolina?

Re: dry malt extract
Slow T, Liquid Malt Extract (LME) has a SG = 1.036 with 1 lb per gallon. Dry Malt Extract (DME) has a SG = 1.045 with 1 lb per gallon. Both of these will be about 75% fermentable, which means that is you start with 1.060 you will ferment down to about 1.015 ish If you use the Points / Pound / Gallon...

blueduck, Do you know what PPG (Points / Pound / Gallon) is? I short one pound of grain in one gallon of water will yield a Specific Gravity of 1.0xx. Drop all but the xx, the xx is PPG. Example, 2-Row Barley has a potential yield of 36 PPG. So 1 lb of 2-Row in 1 gallon of water has a "potentia...

JJ, The most common Stainless Steel you will find is 304 with 316 second. These are what you want to use. 304 vs 316 The main difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel pipe is that 316 contains 2%-3% molybdenum and 304 has no molybdenum. The "moly" is added to improve the corrosion re...

2. I'm not sure why we are condensing inside the column of a stripper. See Odin's opening post. The idea is to put everything in a single column with no / few bends or constrictions. Re: Building a world class stripper ...
What about the consistency? Think cream corn or thin chunky oatmeal. I don't think there is anyway you will move the grains through your system, mainly do to the size. If you had a couple of gallons per chamber and 2" pipe in between you might be able to transfer the grain / wash slurry. At th...

"Another idea I had was to reduce back to 4" after the expansion/funnel section so the condenser would match diameter of the funnel" If you do this, you will need to extend the 4" section a fraction below the 4"-6" transition. If that transition is smooth any condensat...

Re: Building a world class stripper ...
Windy,
what does the trap on the outlet do for you ? I would assume that there is an open vent at the top of the column to make sure you don't build up pressure. And with that I don't see any vapor locks or blocks in the system.
