Re: The liar's bench

I had to come share this one here with y'all. It's a rare occasion that I over indulge. Well, they lifted some restrictions here and I was able to visit a friend I hadn't seen in awhile. I brought over some of my beverages, and had a full pint to myself. I maybe have one drink a week nowadays so I'm...

Re: The liar's bench

Been awhile since I posted. Still been around in the shadows. Never gave up the hobby, just no time for internet. Now with my layoff (it was coming before this covid thing) I have some time. Been missing posting here. The upside to layoff is I've FINALLY got my electric almost built. Just need to Fa...

Missed this place for sure. Definitely nice to have life settle down a little and let me get back on the forum. Still been stillin' . . . just not much time for leisurely chats or checking up on the forum. Glad to see the same ol' riff-raff.

But it's going well. Finally brought up some things for my hobby. Now I just gotta figure out how to get...

Re: Booner's Casual All Corn

So if I used just cracked or crushed, can I just rack the wash off the corn after it ferments and settles out? I do have a number of fine mesh paint strainer bags I use for pressing cider. Cracked corn will work ok. Look up Big R's step mashing method (pretty sure it was him, been awhile since i vi...

Just a quick note. I saw somebody mention calibration of your hydrometer (proof and tralle). I can't get them locally, so always buy two (if you have only one, it is sure to break). Well, I noticed i was getting low readings once. Grabbed my spare. Read higher. Tried them both in a known (eek . . . ...

Re: Planning my first keg still build!

Nice looking build there. The only thing I see is the garden hose use for hot water out . . . it probably won't be an issue for you since you are running from a hose with enough pressure, but if you ever decide to go to a pond pump recirculating system, that hose tends to collapse when it gets too w...

Not distilling related, but I have to post. After taking up welding and going to school for it for a mid-life career change, the metallurgy class I took lead me into an interest for blacksmithing. Joined a local guild, and did some. So the search for an anvil first (while going out and banging some ...

HDNB, do i need to cook the crack corn a bit longer before adding the sebstar if I don't grind it down? I always thought the enzyme would shred even cracked corn. There's a thread around here by BigR on step mashing. Works well for cracked corn. I used to do cracked, but have a mill and grind it do...

Re: Triple distilling

I've always done hookrum. Single run strip runs until I have 5-6 gallons low wines. Then one spirit run with that plus 5 gallons fresh wash. It comes off strong with the molasses flavor, but really mellows out with some time on oak.
