Re: Building my first still (2in boka head)
guyonthecouch I also build a 2" boka very similar to yours. It's difficult to see from the photo if you cut slots in the plate with the tab on it. You might consider cutting small slots on either side of the tab to allow the fluid to drop in the center of the pipe. My column is only about 30 in...

Re: Hello from Florida
Greetings logic don't dispair you can fix those leaks. The most important is that the area be clean and use a good flux paste. No flux core solder. Try cutting several pieces of solder the size that would fit the circumference of the pipe to be soldered, like a ring on your finger, you could doubled...

Shooter I have a Boka also and did a Rads all bran wash for a cleaning run, don't forget the vinegar run first, and it worked out fine. Don't get into the turbo yeast thing on this site; you have quickly seen the result. Just poke around this site and you will find a few comments + and - about the s...

Maximum Run
Need a little advice: I have a 15.5 gallon boiler with a 5500 watt, 240 watt heating element. I have a LM Boka still. I plan on doing more neutral spirits than any other type spirit. I want to maximize my time spent with handling washes. I plan on using Rad’s all bran and Taters birdwatchers washes....

Re: Welding on a keg
Tucker0104 the shielded wire for a mig welder is hard to find and very expensive. Mig with gas is much better but again expensive. Tig is a great weld but takes expensive equipment and lots talent. You can do just as well soldering SS with mapp gas and the proper flux. The flux is most important. Yo...

Re: Low Alcohol?
I just finished up my first two stripping runs of Rads All Bran. Did much better this time. I collected a total of 25 quarts from a 19 gallon wash. The wash was about 13% ABV. The first quart collected was 70% ABV. The last quart collected was 10% ABV. Does six gallons sound correct for a stripping ...

Re: New shotgun cleaning
Tal on cleaning your shotgun condendor, which I also have, I used a shotgun, real gun, cleaning kit. There is and assortment of brass wire brushes you can use just dip them in a food safe cleaning solution and clean away. I use a snake clearer type which is available in many calibers. It is much eas...

Re: Low Alcohol?
To clarify I burned the 80 proof sample, that would be 40% alcohol. It had a nice blue flame when lit. My proof/tralle scale was brand new and first tested on this SAC run. I have since used it to check a known source and it reads correctly. I have no idea why the alcohol was so low. I probably did ...

Welcome aboard ginfiend. I very new at this stuff also. I did a water run, vinegar and then a SAC run as suggested on this site. As I build mine from scratch I cleaned as I went. Never hurts to be to clean. I'm sure you are aware by purchasing the still you may have been put on a list reported to th...

Re: Low Alcohol?
HDNB thanks for the response. My element sits near the 3/4 level because it was a Camco twist type not the straight one. Didn't want to hit the bottom when I installed it. I never intend to do less than a 10 gallon wash in the future, just this 5 gallon SAC, so I don't need to worry about exposing t...

Tal I'm not a pro welder but I found when I soldered my shotgun condensor it was better to use the mapp gas for fast hotter heat on certain joints and propane on other as it wasn't has hot and didn't melt the solder next to the joint I was working on. Propane will sputter alot when tilted at too ste...

Goblin I forgot to take a measurement before I pitched my yeast. I did let the wash it several days after ferment before using. BTY I know less than you. I didn't taste any of the product but it smelled and burned nicely.

Rad it was the proof not percent scale. I run a BOKA no packing yet. The temp at top of column was at 177 degrees and gradually went up to about 198 degrees before I stopped didn't want my element exposed.

Low Alcohol?
I just finished my first SAC run using Rads All Bran recepie. All went well, I think. I used approx. 5 gallons of wash and collected a little less than four quarts total. I used a proof and tralle hydrometer to check alcohol content. This was done the following day. My highest reading was 80 proof a...

Liebig/Graham condensor
I have a question concerning a collection condensor for my LM Boka. I have read a lot about the subject and have become a bit confused. Vinegar run and First wash
Did my first vinegar run in my Boka. I used a 50/50 water vinegar mixture, six gallons total. I played with it for a couple of hours turning the heat up and down to see how my controller worked. I let it steam out the top of my shotgun condensor for some time then I placed a small piece of plywood o...

Re: My Simple Controller
Thanks Superdaveva. I tested the controller yesterday with 7 gallons of well water, approx. 67 degrees. It took approx. 23 1/2 minutes for it to come to a boil. I didn't think that was to bad. I played with the Pot and it worked like a charm. The heat sink did get quite hot though. I put a fan to it...

Because of this posting I was able to get that  SS fitting soldered into the keg. Still not easy but it can be done. I used regular solder and Stay-Brite flux. This is very different from soldering copper and takes some pratice to notice the differences. I burned the flux several times and had...
