By sprayed I assume you mean herbicide. If that were the case they're wouldn't be any flowers.
Depends, but yeah. Could still be pesticide treated.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Went out for morels withe little success so the wife and I decided to pick something since we were out. Sat down in the park and picked 3lb of dandelion flowers. I steeped them for an hour or so and added a bit of sugar to hit 1.09. Two weeks and she's finally done. Damn delicious at 99 proof. Safe...

I know that funky taste. Did my first rum late last year. An odd earthy/musty note, quite pronounced. I'll revisit it in a year or two.

awright. I did it. Clogged the garbage disposal and it needed a plumber. In my defense the damn down pipes were already in need of a plumber's attention. shut up Yeah I've had to unclog the disposal too. I never intentionally dump grain down it, but just from rinsing things, I've gotten enough corn...

Yeah that's not drinking stock yet. Repeat the process 2-3 more times then run it all together. No need to separate for cuts until that final spirit run.

Seems like a waste not to ferment it. Lotta sugar in there if you let it convert.

Re: 75 pounds of free ripe bannanas need a little help

Roast them at 160 for a few hours in the oven, in the peels. Converts the sugars and brings the flavor. Mash them up in water. Ferment it all, with the peels. It'll be a banana flavor bomb, especially with no added sugar.

I did the same on my first rum run. Went a jar (or two) too deep. It's going at the back of the cabinet for a couple of years. If it's still no good then, I'll redistill.

Re: Malting v. Enzymes and your corn likker

Does, by any chance, a little added malt go a long way? ;) Research "Diastatic power". In your grain bill don't go below 25% malted barley, and don't go below 90% malted corn (it has barely enough DP to convert itself) Oh, yes. I was still going to use enzymes. The malt would be strictly ...

Use the peels! I roast them in the oven at 140 for hours. It's like supercharged flavor. And it gets most everything converted. That flavor really will carry over.

10 gallon stainless pot here. Cheap and good. The copper needs to be in the vapor path, not the boiler. Just saying, big doesn't have to be expensive, and it's muuuuuuch easier. You're making things very hard for yourself.

Cuts will be tough on 1.5. I started at 4 and that was too small. Not saying it can't be done, but you're making success a lot harder to achieve. Good luck!

Re: Clear. Fruit flavored shine

Banana mashes have been discussed countless times. Not the best way to get big banana flavors. And their sugar content is relatively low, if you're looking to use that for alcohol production. With a (VM or CM) reflux still, you could put the banana peels in the vapor path to extract some of that fl...
