Re: NC home distillers club

Reviving an old thread - if there's anyone local to Charlotte area that can help me with setting up my 4 inch plated flute, I'd be really appreciative.

get what you pay for! I think home distillers get spoiled when it comes to quality. small batch is soooo much different than the high volume commercial slag

Anyone using a mash tun setup similar to this?

Curious if this type of setup would work well for grain mashes & enzymes. Anyone have a cajun pot and strainer with BIAB like this? Looks like a nice way to mash but am unsure if there's a false bottom on the strainer insert to separate the bag and grains from the element. https://www.youtube.co...

Re: best power controller for steam injection boiler

I need an electric controler for a 5500w element that will be heating the water in my boiler. Does anyone on the site make these and sell them to less electronic saavy folk? I've already got the parts on order for pressure release valve and bypass valve, etc. I'm looking for an electric controller f...

best power controller for steam injection boiler

I'm planning on running a steam injection setup for my mash tun & distiller boiler. I'm looking at a 15.5 gal keg for my steam boiler which will be heating my 24 gal distilling boiler and a 4 inch flute. Mash tun is also 24 gal. I'm not electronically savvy so building myself is out. I would lik...

Re: double duty: still boiler running steam injection for co

Do some searches. A few people here have devised ways of doing steam injection for the purpose you're talking about. Some have even discussed using the boiler charged with water to distill an on-the-grain charge in a thumper. That said, you could theoretically mash, ferment, and distill in the same...

Re: double duty: still boiler running steam injection for co

Thanks for the response. Very slick setup. Can you snap a few close up pics or even a short video on your phone of the steam fittings for the boiler and the plumbing on the back of the kegs? So you are managing the temp of the distilling pot with the controller on the middle steam vessel? I'd like t...

Re: double duty: still boiler running steam injection for co

very cool setup deepsouth. thanks for sharing. What plumbing is involved on the back of each keg for the steam injection? Are you fermenting on the grain in the mash tun on the right or are you using a fermenter? Do you transfer from the mash tun on the left to your still on the right? Do you have a...

double duty: still boiler running steam injection for corn?

I'm starting to dive in and look at future equipment and parts list for a steam injected mash tun/fermenter setup and am wondering if anyone's running a steam injection setup from their still boiler for mashing corn. Mashing question - I'm planning on using a 24 gallon milk can electric boiler for m...

Re: New to the hobby - Upstate SC

I've done my fair share of reading the past 3 weeks. I'm curious if a milk can boiler with a 5500 electric element can double for heating/mashing corn and using enzymes. This would probably make a mighty fine tasting product from my flute. A few corn mashing questions: Are fellow homedistillers usin...

New to the hobby - Upstate SC

Hey home distillers - I've been lurking for about a month and finally broke down and created an account. I've already learned a ton and am going to learn and unlearn a lot as I go. I've been home roasting coffee (http://www.homeroasters.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;&qu...
