Re: Ok, I'm ready, pick my first run apart...

Thank you...great tip. I think it'll be a week before I recover from last time. Seriously, by the time I had my 4th or 5th taste, it was harsh. Thanks again.

Re: Ok, I'm ready, pick my first run apart...

No, it's a Mile Hi Hybrid still. It's a column on top of a milk can boiler, but I packed the column with copper mesh. Then I used the reflux chamber at the top of the column to flush it back down. Because it was a sugarhead, I was trying to get a decent neutral flavor. But now that I think back, I c...

I added the water to the alcohol...it would be nice if it were something that simple.

Ok, I'm ready, pick my first run apart...

Ran my still for the first time yesterday. Exhilarating. Anyway, about a 6 gallon charge, feel like I got the cuts close, and based on a book called "The Home Distiller's Workbook" I collected (after the heads) up to about 195f. It was Winoes Sugarwash (which was one of the T&T recipes...

my friend just opened a bar and was showing off his 'specialist expensive bourbons' . he had Hudson bourbon and rye. god damn they were some rough cut rot gut. still because I dropped some coin on them it was able to finish. My son lives on Long Island, and he brought some of the Hudson Rye home ov...

Re: Question for the Electrically Inclined

Thanks greatly everyone. The dedicated 220v circuit was for a single 5hp dust collector motor (220v) that I use in my woodworking shop for central vacuum. I honestly don't know why it's "only" a 20amp breaker...I was hoping it was a 30. Maybe I need to investigate more. But I do know this:...

Question for the Electrically Inclined

Hi. New to the sport, just doing my basic research, and getting gear in order. There is a TON I do not know, and I'm taking the long term approach and reading everything I can. Despite a search of the archives, I cannot find a experiential answer to this question: I'm creating a 13 gallon boiler, wh...

Re: Better Method if you absolutely HAVE to use Turbo Yeast

Crap. I was "gifted" 4 packets of Turbo Yeast for my new still. I suppose I could run one as the sacrificial lamb just to make sure it all works. Like others have said, it would at least prove the still is working ok, test for leaks and have fuel for the deck lamps.

Hello from BGreene in North Carolina

Wanted to take the plunge and say Hi to all here. In my neck of the woods, "moonshine" is a rather common thing. I know how it's been glamorized in the media, with the reality shows, etc., but it's something that I grew up watching my grandparents drink. For whatever reason, that curiosity...
