Thanks for sharing, the paint strainers look like a great idea. The video clearly showed your method too - great!
Do you subject the resulting liquid to further processing or is it ready to go in the still?

Re: Hi from northern Nsw, in Oz
I’m wondering if they have problems with their site? G'day Monkey, that site's working for me, although this is where the action's at! Literally a world of home distilling experience, at your fingertips. So many Aussies here, I'm another - been in Sydney for years but born in Lismore and have rello...

Re: Stuck washs
Sorry to hear about your troubles bluc. Maybe try doing a 20-litre wash until you get the process sorted? I really only have experience with sugar washes. Despite using quite consistent, neutral pH Sydney tap water, I used to have mixed results with my variation of Birdwatcher’s, some batches would ...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Could you explain a few points? Definitely don’t just crack and plop, Undies! I wash the eggshells then let them air dry for some days. I then grind them for a few seconds in an old coffee grinder to a size of 2-3mm. I don’t know if the grinding is necessary but what IS important is to sterilise th...

Re: Birdwatchers Success
It’s nice to be able to report a success! It’s nice to read of your success! I’ve been making Birdwatcher’s for nearly 4 years, up to about 60-something batches now. I used to have trouble with consistency despite being careful with measurements and using temperature control - some washes would fin...

Re: Hey Aussies
Times have changed, not so many around these days. Sort of a cross between a cafe and a 7-11. A place where you could buy a milkshake, smokes, sweets, a pie. Most had a few booths, a bit like Arnold's in Happy Days.Uncle Jesse wrote:What on earth is a “milk bar”?

America, the land of the free! You know what our rate of excise in Australia is? $80.41 per litre of alcohol (currently, it gets indexed to inflation twice a year).
That's 152.19 pacific pesos per proof gallon, or about US$108.
$24.12 for 750mL @ 40%

Re: G'day from Sydney, Australia
Thanks for the welcomes and prompt replies. :D Bigbob I think you should demand at least 100 billion dollars! Yes, given the volatile nature of the stuff we're trying to keep, I was concerned that the angels might take more than their share. Minimal air movement and just letting just the more...

G'day from Sydney, Australia
I've been home brewing beer for more than a decade and got into distilling a couple of years ago. Looked in here around then but was somewhat put off by the hand-crafted stills, the whole mashing thing, big wash sizes etc. Seemed way outa my league. Sad to say I started off with (and still use) an a...
