Re: heater element "box"
Thanks for all the help everybody. I did have some of that stay clean stuff and watched that vid. All the leaks are fixed and shees runnin vinegar like a champ :D . Only bad thing was that I put ample amounts of flux on it, and all the flux that was in it from about 2 years ago ended up being a boil...

Re: heater element "box"
I have never been able to solder copper to SS to successfully. . Any tips? Using the right kind of flux is very very important. I had failed sloppy solders until I swapped to Harris Stay Clean and then everything just clicked and was super easy. Followed what I saw in this thread to get an idea: ht...

One more quick question. I went to lowes to look at elements. The 4500 element was longer than the 5500. Does it matter on the length? Also, i couldnt find on either one anything about this "low density " iv been readin about.... Got mine here: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/stainless-...

Re: burry fermenter under ground
 take it from a few Aussies Shed temps of 120 for 55 gal barrels is no big deal. If it was a real problem I'd be looking at wooden barrels before I went all Percy Flowers with buried shit everywhere, I reckon ya over thinking it  Thanks ! Re: burry fermenter under ground
Thats doable but how much temp would you figure in due to fermenting 30 gallons?shadylane wrote:One way to see, would be to fill a barrel full of water, to see what it's temps average out to, over a couple nights and daysSaltbush Bill wrote:It cant be 120 in that shed all of the time , what does the temp drop to on a hot night ?

Re: burry fermenter under ground
If there's a garden hose nearby, there's no reason for the fermenter to over heat. Use 30 gallon fermenter in a 55 gallon water jacket, Also known as barrels  A side benefit for lazy people is, the fermenter will get lighter and float while it's being emptied. So you ain't gotta bend over as f...

Re: burry fermenter under ground
+1 what they said. I buried one and experienced all the problems that they mentioned. My solution was to stop fermenting from mid July thru the end of August. It's way easier to keep one warm than to cool one down. Jbt minus the problems that were mentioned, did it keep temps down? Im guessing unde...

Re: burry fermenter under ground
I would use a pump to pump it. I have a "debris" handling pump. And im man enough to clean the barrel out. That would be one of the easier things in my life. Can you tell me what kind of pump you have and. Post pics if you can and don't mind. Been looking for a pump that can handle ag sil...

because the neutral and ground are tied together? That solid copper wire is going to a 6' ground rod driven 5' 10" in the ground.shadylane wrote:One other thing I was going to say

Re: Help a idiot with electrical?
So I guess heres my plan. Leave the panel the way it is (if it was good enough in 05 its good enough for me) ,,, and get inside my controller and cut out the 110 stuff, throw it up in the trees . WALA no need for a neutral. Im ready to get this thing rollin. I built ONE of the first flutes, ran it o...

Re: Help a idiot with electrical?
Ok, so it wont be a problem to redo the configuration in the sub panel box. But what about the neutral wire on my controller? Can I gust connect it WITH the ground wire on my 3 prong plug? No, the controller doesn't use neutral. my controller has a neutral. I had Brian wire it with a 110 pigtail al...

Re: Help a idiot with electrical?
No malice. Now that I know it is a sub panel, I would caution you to not mix Ground and Neutral. Separate the Ground wires from Neutrals and ground them to a copper rod or two driven in the ground. I just happen to be working the same issues myself right now and we're all learning as we go. I have ...

I dont care about the temp as long as it ferments, so i guess ferment temps??? And i can burry the whole thing (50gal) if needed. More trouble than worth.... How are you going to get the wash out of a 50 gallon barrel buried below ground level? You won't be able to siphon it out. And cleaning the f...

Re: Help a idiot with electrical?
You need some research here. What or where is the breaker box you connected ground and neutral? "Whenever you have an auxiliary panel the neutral and ground should not be tied together because the ground wire becomes a parallel path for current with the neutral wire (any current going through ...

hmmm, not sure about that. I figured that the pond would dissipate the hot water fast enough. Plus, it will have to travel about 50' through a water hose before it gets to the pond.... Im needing to cull some of my koi, but I aint wanting to cull the wrong ones.
