Hi welcome to the site mate. I was like you and spent many a year doing the same. But this year I got into making it all with natural ingredients and running thru a pot still and I'm having so much more fun! Happy distilling!

"I will also agree with Odin, BUT only if the keg is tipped onto its side and is heated externally with a large enough fire to cover it's entire lower surface area. Thereby exposing more liquid to be in contact with more heat (again the increased to surface area is a red herring).  I deem this...

Re: Now turn those keg boilers 90 degrees please!

Mainly posting to dispute the puddle comparison. 2 puddles of equal volume but differing surface area would have different heat input, since the larger one gets more Sun. I think even if there is a difference (which I doubt) it would be minuscule compared to minor differences in heat input. Fascina...

EBAY have cheap controllers, search SCR motor voltage dimming regulator 4000w. I throughly recommend getting some control of your ourput, makes for a much better product (less smearing).

Good to hear you're back Bob! I'm so impressed with your recipe! I have two flagons aging currently. One on oak chips and the other with apple and cherry and mesquite wood. Am leaving them for a few months to see which wood I prefer before adding the dunder essence (which is delicious by the way!). ...

Re: Buccaneer Bob's Silver, Gold, and Black Rum Recipe

I just went straight to a spirit run :) it ran thru pretty well especially with the blocking diode so I could slow down the output around the various transition stages. Ran faster thru the hearts stage. I aired it out overnight and did a quick cut session before work. I managed to get 4 litres at 40...

Re: Yeast + Electricity = ???

Very interesting thread... I'm an electronics tech by trade. New circuits in NZ homes need to have an RCD, so an electrician will legally have to replace an old ceramic fuse (with fuse wire) with an RCD only on the circuit he works on. The rest can stay as is. But common sense suggests that a home o...

Re: Buccaneer Bob's Silver, Gold, and Black Rum Recipe

My wash is at the second stage, have added the sugar and has nearly fermented all the way thru. What's really impressed me so far is the lovely taste of the wash. The nicest tasting I've made so far and I can't stop taking a little sip every couple of days! Has a lovely lemony rum taste and I think ...

Well I finally begun last night. My dunder pit is only two generations old but it's still such a fascinating par...

Who out there have multiple stills?

Hey all, I can see myself having more than one still in the future (I currently have a 25litre pot still) but was curious as to who had multiple stills and what you use them for (size/type etc)?? Cheers Fyfo.

I have always bought my stills (it's all legal here in nz) so don't have any experience with this (but I will likely build a bigger setup in the future). Many on here like to build mainly to stay off the government's radar plus they can make something to suit their needs. They seem to all go for a b...
