Re: Camco 5500 watt element failure

True, I also use a lot of Teflon tape on the threads, but this was totally unexpected. Like I said, probably a fluke and might never happen again, or at least I hope not. 8)

Re: Camco 5500 watt element failure

Shoot AC, heck if I know. The element guard kit is China, Camco claims to be US, but my guess, China...sad but it is what it is. 3 other elements doing just fine, my guess, manufacturing flaw, i.e. bad casting when they did the base. But for what it's worth, I am still going to use their elements. D...

Camco 5500 watt element failure

Have been using the Camco 02965 ULWD ripple elements for almost 8 years and just had my first failure. The base of the element developed a crack and caused it to fail. 20221119_142911.jpg 20221119_143046.jpg Never would have guessed this could be something that could fail..LOL, new one is on order.

Re: Does a packed column need to be vertical?

Not sure about if it will work or not but in the past flooding and channeling have been issues that in my opinion makes vertical better, or you will certainly encourage channeling which defeats the benefit of the packaging.

Re: Random Packing For A 4" Column

If it works out I will be interested in enough to fill my 8 sections of 4" glass to replace my 6mm ceramic rings, they work fine but add a lot of weight to the column.

Re: If one wanted to do a give away for free and winner had to only pay shipping how would one do this?

I would read up on your state laws. Some do not consider it a still unless it is assembled and capable of running, others consider the worm or product condenser the big no-no. When it comes down to it, it is only a bunch of metal parts. Take it apart and keep it. Sorry to hear about your marriage wo...

Wow Steve, I am very impressed. You have taken the time to read, research and come up with the answers to get your project done. I own a buttload of stills, some purchased, some made by myself and I get the most satisfaction out of the ones I built. My hat is off to you sir. Job well done, now if we...

I should have been more specific. The KDF filter I use is the KDF85-GAC, it has activated carbon as well. "Our FI-KDF85 filter cartridges have superior taste and odor reduction capabilities. There are two types of media in these types of filters: the KDF media in this cartridge specializes in t...

Re: Bubble cap with integrated downcomer from China

112 mm tees works out to 4.4" same as I have. Plenty of room and yes the pro-caps do have a very wide operating range but I would rather go with a trusted supplier like LWTS. Can not speak or recommend on the knockoffs because I have no hands on experience with them. A lot of documented researc...

Re: Bubble cap with integrated downcomer from China

Imho as your making neutral, the larger number of caps with more (smaller?) slots would be better. 400 quid for the upgrade, tell em they're dreaming. Your not looking at a 16 plate Glasser are you? If so skip it, not enough plate height (especially if you decide on pro caps, they are pretty bulky ...

All googd GCB3, but as far as live oak, I tried it on my smoker, and ruined a big batch of mackerel, and it left a real harsh bitter, tannic nasty taste, so maybe experiment with small batches. My be it does well in likker and not so good in smoker. I'll be sticking to apple, cherry and hickory for ...

Tell me, what's a good beer? Tell me, what's a good scotch? Tell me, what's a good whisky? Tell me, what's a good bourbon? The answer to all is the one I LIKE, OR YOU LIKE. Rum is a complicated product, just like beer, scotch or whisky, or bourbon. Start here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum"...
