Re: First spirt run with airstill
^^^ chill out. It's his first run. Air still and turbo yeast are the quickest and easiest way to get into the hobby. Sounds like he knows enough to be safe. Good for you man! Try some other recipes...

Re: apple beer in the still? new stiller question
It was delicious. Had a sweet fruity flavour and some remnants of apple. No hop oils or problems with my worm. I wish I had more to run. I'm seriously considering running some beers....

Re: My First Still
I get barely any foam on my washes. Not like brewing beer. Rather than an airlock, run a hose from the center "spike" into a jar of water. If it blows off, whatever. I believe it's called a blow off tube. Nice rig.

Re: Starting from scratch
I found very little of it made sense until I had done my first run. Read up and focus on safety. Start a batch of sugar wash to play with.

Re: Best recipe for single run on a pot still
I just ran off a batch of first gen UJSSM and it was indeed pretty good. We are getting better at cuts. I have a batch of second gen waiting to run too I will keep you posted. I ran some apple brandy that had a good flavour and was very smooth.

Re: Methane Digester Powered Still
Have you considered gasifying wood? In theory you could add your biomass into the process.

Re: Methane Digester Powered Still
Every time you convert energy you loose a bunch of it. If I where trying to do anything with biomass it would be to straight up burn in- no storing or compressing. It is also be possible to build a solar still if you where willing to wait a long time for your batch. There's a contentious discussion ...

Re: Best recipe for single run on a pot still
Yeah, I get the stripping and spirits run process and I'm in the process of up sizing everything to accommodate that. I don't have a problem with doing it, I was just wondering if anyone had a good recipie for single runs is all. Maybe that's a unicorn. I like full flavoured spirits over neutrals. I...

Best recipe for single run on a pot still
Hi all, I've done a few runs on my 3 gallon pot still. Some good, some not so much. The not so great stuff is sub par I think because of bad cuts so I'm going to do a spirit run with it. Here's my question: do you have a favorite recipe for single runs on a pot still? I have ujssm gen 2 fermenting n...

Re: first run
Pot or reflux still? Do any jars taste good? As long as you got your foreshots off then its all safe to drink - just depends on what you want to do with it. First off, air it out for 48 hrs. Cover with a coffee filter and an elastic band. Next, decide. Here's some options: 1: if it tastes good, set ...

Re: apple beer in the still? new stiller question
It is, by the way, an excellent summer drink. More like a cider but not as thin and dry. I have made many batches of it. I will report how it tastes off the still.

Re: apple beer in the still? new stiller question
Awesome, yes I was worried about the hop oil in my rig but as others have pointed out, its a very small amount. Would a vinigar run do the trick for cleaning?.

apple beer in the still? new stiller question
so, I'm new to stilling but I have been making beer and cider for a while. I have a batch of apple graff in the carboy that I was thinking of distilling into some sort of apple brandy in my pot still. I just wanted to run it by you guys. Apple graff is basically beer with about 30% malt sugar and 70...

Re: Ethanol Vapor Detector
This is designed to work with arduino which is a simple micro controller board. The digital 5v out will likely not power a buzzer that's very loud, but I bet one could be procured that has a separate power source with a few more amps. Lots of sources for arduino parts and boards. Calibration for the...

We did the cleaning procedure properly yes and don't worry, I'm not done learning. I did go through the spoonfeeding post and I will do so before. Honestly, lots of it mad...

New Stiller
Hey all, Me and a fried got the idea to try stilling as I have been brewing beer for a long time and we where looking for a new challenge. Plus, we are both handy guys that like the DIY evenings with the tools in the shop. So we knocked together a really ghetto pot still and ran off a batch of Birdw...
