Re: Question on an apple wash....
Re-Up! So from what i understand, even if the wash is (apple cider) is ferment dry, i can keep it on the shelves for a dew weeks before running it? So its not like a normal wash wich have to be run very fast or it will turn bad.
That would be good cuz mine is almost dry and cant run it until oct 1-2!

Re: Lots of heads, few hearts (1st strip run)
Ferments did well, everything did good. If i look back at what i did wrong is: A: running the heads too fast so it smeared. B: scared of going deep into the tails because it smelled yummy but didnt include them by fear of messing up my batch . First time doing cuts so i went maybe a bit too much con...

I did 3 strip for à 5 gal spirit at 40. It was a pencil lead stream the whole run. I should of had run my heads a bit slower i think. Well next year since the water at my country house is closed for the winter. Im sad i love this hobby too much . Ill try to brew beer at home to compensate !

Re: Lots of heads, few hearts (1st strip run)
Finally done everything! The yield seems very low (3 quart jars from a 5 gal at 40% run potstill) Still im happy with the result. Maybe the yield was very low because i really dont like the smell of heads so if u had just à bit of the chemical smell i tossed the jar. I was scared of tails too didnt ...

Maybe its my réfractometer reading that is bad since i broke my hydrometer it was the first time using one.
Ill try to buy a new hydrometer tomorrow.
Or else ill run it anyway and lose a lot of potential
Cuz i need to do it this weekend

Re: Stalled wash, think its PH, what now?
Never made a yeast bomb, ill do next time the only thing i did was following the recipe of odin.
Since my set up is at my country house and i dont plan returning anytime soon should i just repitch a couple of tablespoon of yeast (1 or 2) or it will make the taste bad?

Stalled wash, think its PH, what now?
I have 3 six gallons of odin's CFW and the wash seems dead since there is no bubbling and activity at all , sent off after like 4 days and then stalled at 1.025. All my other ones where doing good finished dry. I did just one thing different.. I didnt put the lemon but pH stabiliser 5.2 instead. So ...

On a 15.5 gal keg, would making a Spirit run with 5 gal of low wines work ? Why charging it full? Could this induce more smearing?

Re: Learning how to Drive
There's a couple of speed limits when driving a potstill. One is when the pot pukes from boiling too hard and the other is when the condenser starts blowing vapor. Potstilling is similar to driving a car, it's best to drive half as fast as it can go. Puking is when the mash make it to the condensor...

Running a uncleared wash
Hey guys ! Been succesfully running my first wash this weekend it was 10 gallons Of Odins cfw. I stripped til i reached 20% for a total wash of 45abv. The thing is that i had to run it this weekend but it was still bubbling slightly. I started at 1.070 and ran it at 1.005 aprox. Im on a pot still wi...

Hi guys, tried to google and search the forum quite hard to get the answee for this but, i have a 15 gal potstill and i intend to do a Odin Cornflakes as my first wash. Re: Cornflakes whiskey
How would you guys proceed if i just have access to 5 gal fermenters ( i have 2 for the moment)
Should i just cook batch by batch?
Since the fermenter holds 5 gallons, i should reduce the recupe for 4 gallons because of foaming?
Then just do another 4 gal recipe for the other bucket?

How to know if my sac run was enough? Its pretty hard to see in the condenser if its 100% clean.. I did 45 min vinegar and 3 gallon in my 15 gal keg. Was commin out blue at first then clean. During the sac run it was clean like water and just smellin what i was distilling (cheap wine) so i guess it ...

Nice info on the parrot because my reflex was to think that it actually reduces de chances of smearing as u have and 'live' reading of whats commin' out of the still . Again, its all going to be more a 'senses' thing than actual data reading. Btw, i searched for infos for my reading of %ABV before a...

Thanks for your explanation SS now its getting clearer, i knew the thermometer was not the way to go but at the same time i read a book called 'making 100% pure corn whiskey' and they advise having one for the beginners, probably just more confusing than anything else. The parrot will help me unders...

That, i think (Think) i got it. But still, u need to keep steady temp or else ull just extract a tiny bit of what u could have.(if i runned at Max like 35000 btu) U guys base yourselves on the stream and taste (obviously).

Maybe this is a dumb question but this method applies to corn only and not flaked maize since the flaked is already cooked? I can just use the 150F for 2hrs in mash tun method?
