Re: Fruit / Berry Recipes

Good afternoon fruit and berry freaks! I ran across 2 bushels of homegrown blackberries and we want want some shine made from them. I plan on following taters recipe here. Just looking for input or experience that folks have had with blackberries. The bushels are rinsed and frozen. Should I run them...

Re: Cornballhead......made from T&T Booners

Sounds interesting bet would be even better at 8-9% max. B I'm sure it would. However, i went a few extra points on ABV because I am making this for flavoring, like panty dropper etc etc. In my previous sugar washes it seems as if that bite disappears when you load it full of sugar, as long as you ...

Cornballhead......made from T&T Booners

In comparison to Jimbo's Gumballhead, I thought I would make a cornball off the spent grains from my first AG. Holy smokes does it make an easy and very tasty drank. For those interested, I used booners casual corn in a ten gallon recipe. After pressing the grains, I threw them right back in the fer...

Sounds interesting however, why did put in all the work to mash it in to just make it a sugar head?

Re: So, Corn meal...

That's a shame ... corn meal and liquid enzymes, using the "no boil" protocol, is about as easy as it gets for all-grain. Only way to go with meal or pulverized corn. Your worries will be gone. Your starting gravity will get better over time. Insulate and retain that heat if your doing a ...

Re: Booner's Casual All-Corn

If you use cracked corn you should 3lb per gallon. Pulverized or milled you can get by with 2 lb per gallon.

How are you insulating you fermentation vessel?

Shoe me some pics of yours and I'll show you some pics of mine........

Race to the gutter and go....

Really though, show us some pics.

To insulate is the key. I used yoga mats to get them off the concrete. Wrapped in sleeping bags these AG, US-05 ferments hold 67 degrees in a room that is 50 degrees.

Test your well water for iron. If it is iron free your good to go. My well water is extremely hard which is good. Full of limestone/calcium which is good for yeast. I have experimented with all kinds of water. Well water is the best in my opinion.

Pond pump in knee high pantyhose. 300 gallon per hour. 5 gallon per minute. 10 gallon mash.....poof. In the still. That pump don't move enough liquid or have enough turbulence to disturb a settled yeast bed.

I'm a huge fan of US-05. Ferments very clean. After airing out, I'm not sure the fores even smell that bad. Very little esters. It's pricy but to me it's worth every penny.

Thicker sludge will stay hotter than a thinned soup??? I don't think it makes a difference. How should a thin mash loose the heat faster? Viscosity versus evaporation? Would a thicker liquid evaporate less? A thinner liquid may steam and evaporate more? I dont know shit about this. My gears are tur...

Greetings fellow HD addicts, I've been at this now for a little of over two years making sugar heads like UJSM (along with my own variations like corn, sweet feed and oats) with an ABV of 10% & bakers or Dady. I have become extremely comfortable with processes so it was time to step out of the z...

I believe that they higher your sugar content, the less flavor will carry over. The higher the sugar content, the more heads you will have. I have experimented both ways and the mouth feel and flavor is better when I use less sugar.
