Re: A trip on the Blues Trail
I go to Memphis for work fairly regularly and will always head down on a Friday to spend the weekend in Clarksdale. First off - Be careful.. It can be sketchy. I can recommend staying at the Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale. Also, make sure to get some delta tamales. Take a drive out to the levee if you ...

Re: Newbie question; best use for corn mash leftover after squeezing
I usually find someone with chickens or other stock that will eat the leftover beer grains. It’s an even better deal when they give you some eggs or meat in return.
Maybe try baking with it. Bread or something. Sugar Heads and composting are common.

Re: Aquarium Heater Danger
Is this setup still working for you? It looks like the right idea to use on my 50 gal stainless steel fermenter. Those aquarium heaters worked great with the sugar sour mashes I did, never had an issue, always kept the ferment at a good temp to finish dry. But on the all-grain it really didn’t keep...

A trip on the Blues Trail
I totally forgot to mention I am taking a short trip, flying into Memphis and driving to Clarksdale, MS including a day trip south through Mississippi on the "Blues Trail". My Partner has been before but I have not. Very excited for some good food, history, and blues music! Anyway, if you ...

Re: High rye wash in an electrical boiler?
So what is it about rye that scorches so easily? Is it unfermented sugars? I used flaked rye in my recipe. What did you guys use? *** *** *** My final question is, is it possible or impossible to distill a beer with rye in it on an ultra low watt density element? Well, it depends... the vapor-treat...

My condolences... there might be a pellicle in the boiler that could scorch Nah, that wasn't it, man. I had my heating element burnt with the rye wort as clear as beer and with no infection in it. It was like: wow! it's clear, it's yummy, it has a fine scent, imma run it out on induction and a heat...

The Governor signs (almost) everything that crosses his desk. It’s amazing that this bill ever came out of committee in our Senate… It’s been killed for 3 consecutive years. When it first passed the house, the limit was 50 gallons per household. It has now been downgraded to 5 as an individual or 1...

The adhesive comes off. In the other words, the backing has an adhesive that peels away from the ptfe. The adhesive is on the backing not the PTFE ? So, the adhesive is NOT intended to hold the PTFE in place ? That doesn't make sense to me, from a product standpoint, but you're free to use whatever...

Had this for my bday last month. New Zealand has one of the highest tobacco tax-rates in the world. This stick cost me $62NZ ($37US). A treat for a special occasion, but even the most budget sticks here are prohibitively expensive, so I can't have as many as I'd like to. :esad: Perdomo10Maduro.jpg ...

So I just dumped it all down the gutter and got down to the element n it wasn’t burned black as expected! There was some stuff cooked onto it. This ferment didn’t finish dry, so could sugars have burned in suspension?

I am wondering if I just dump the 4 or 5 jars of the first run back in the still and runn it again, might as well it is undrinkable now. Re: Wheated bourbon
Just attempted to run the main batch of beer and burned. Dang. The initial all corn brew I ran had no problems, I stripped it dirty, and fast. It appears the wheat and or rye really doesn’t like the element. I’m guessing the burnt distillate can’t be used or saved ? I’ll try this again, but I’m goin...

Re: High rye wash in an electrical boiler?
Bummer CK! I just spent two hours yesterday scrubbing my element. I heated up at full power 5500w then reduced to strip at half power. Everything worked out fine. I noticed the foam and wash went down so bumped up the power. I’m thinking that’s what did for me. But can’t be certain at this point. H...

Re: High rye wash in an electrical boiler?
Well that failed...but I'm not convinced it was the beer. After pouring in the beer I smelled an infection from the boiler and after pouring out the backset after the run there were bits of infection pellicle that poured out as well. I'm in the habit of spraying out my boiler after use, but it's be...

I enjoyed an Oliva Serie O robusto yesterday while I was proofing down some items to take to the SE Meetup. Screenshot 2024-03-23 085738.png I usually buy a bundle of fumas (factory smokes) and a sampler of name brands about once a year. That's less than 1 per week. That one is in my top three. Lov...

Re: Cigars - what are you smoking
No cigar smoker here. Just zig-zag rolled tobacco cigarettes. The tobacco blend is kinda like a Solera Aging Process. The pouch never gets empty, and the blend constantly changes. :ewink: That’s awesome! I’ve never been into cigarettes but I through and through love tobacco. Definitely more respect...

I have no idea, it does have a 2” port on top. Bought it from affordable distillery equipment If it's got a triclamp port on top where the still head or column goes then you can buy / make a thumper attachment for it. If you're reasonably handy with a torch then you can make the necessary parts. Mi...
