Re: First cleaning run
You said your total distillate (takeoff) collected at 42% (without temp correction). Did you end up putting everything you collected together? If so, you are going to want to do a spirit run then blend cuts leaving heads and tails out. , A 14% abv wash isn't too bad for sugar but probably the upper...

Re: Is splashing in an LM slant-plate bottom plate a "proble
There may be a little bit of splashing, but not much as the bottom plate does not hold any liquid.

Re: Thank you all for the great help on this forum!
Yes, that's the formula I used with a total volume of 12gal. after that, I kept on adding water to be below a SG of 1.070. When the wash was done, I used exactly 12gal of it into my keg and discarded the rest (maybe another gal or so) So from 12gal sugarwater you got 13gal fermented sugarwater? No,...

Re: boka and plates
The original bokakob had plates arranged like that instead of packing to stack the fractions. Outdated now and packing is a lot better. I wouldn't waste the time or material.

My mother was a big big fan of southern comfort. Cancer took her 6 years ago, I buy a bottle of it on her birthday, 23rd of May, and share it with the rest of my family the day she died, 26th of may.

Re: CT's agitating mash after ferment-OHH NO NOT BEER!!!
Nice. I mostly make rum/whiskey so don't clear ( I'm after flavour, why would I want to drop all the flavours out) but if I ever do a dedicated neutral wash, I'll give it a go.

One end of the fitting should have a thread on it. Find a nut that fits and screw it into the bowl.

Find it hard to believe that it was a full frontal attack on the site by those that left as well as all choosing to delete their posts as most of us don't have the computer skills or the necessary access to do so. That would be one hellava conspiracy . Nice place when it was frequented by many folk...

Re: Hello! New here and have a Question about mash
Ok. Adding sugar is up to you, but I would recommend not. Adding sugar can give it a "bite" that AG does not have. I would use that yeast as I use bakers for everything but fruit. In saying that, I have not used rye so cannot comment on how it will go. Someone else may chime in. Tip: have ...

Woah woah woah! Who says R/O water kills a ph probe? What ph meter did you use to come to that conclusion? I have been growing using hydroponics and aeroponics for over ten years and have used cheap ph meters and now have a Hanna meter that's around $100. Never once had water of any sort damaged an...

Also. I would recommend using a different yeast. Preferably one made for whiskey/beer as opposed to the EC-1118 which is more for fruit.

Is it malted rye? If not, then there is no point in heating and straining. If it is, then add more and skip the sugar.

Re: Oak barrel staves - Bourbon
I'm pretty sure the microwave treatment is more to gas off some of the more volatile components to simulate what would be lost through the barrel. The heat drawing out more from the wood is just a happy side effect as many have "nuked" without wood and gotten the same results of a smoother...

Re: PH troubles
I add baking soda and pitch some more yeast in and it will generally come right. Don't add baking soda, especially if you're carrying over backset/dunder. It will leave salts behind, and you don't want to do that. You want calcium carbonate instead of sodium bicarbonate. If you want to be fancy, yo...
