Re: Calling all chemists.... UJSSM iodoform test
@patrick10ghost I collect and save everything too but no way in hell would I drink everything... The first bits that come off are highly concentrated with acetone(dimethylketone, 2-propanone, nail polish remover or whatever you want to call it) consuming large concentrations of acetone can lead to ...

Re: Calling all chemists.... UJSSM iodoform test
The only problem I see with doing all these tests is the idea of building your drinks flavor profile. I collect everything from first drop out till 196° or I taste char. If I left out my heads it would drastically change my flavor. Tests are great but you are missing the point of learning to taste a...

Re: Something foul ferments that way.
Well he thinks it's from the ferment drums getting too warm. So I cranked up the heat pump and spaced them out more with a fan running some air in between them. I am moving on the filtering the grain out.

Something foul ferments that way.
Oh god, my 400 gallon batch had a great smell from tank to barrel but I clocked out and in the morning it smells like cow shit. I am horrified and scared that a rogue yeasts has pushed out our beloved yeast. I am so scared of our batch coming strange or with off taste. I have no earthly idea if I di...

Re: Rum from Melasse
From a big side view beet sugar is a super cheap alternative to cane sugar. The really big problem is quality of sugar. Try using beet sugar instead of white cane the use molasses syrup or brown sugar.

Been working with pools most of my young life. You would be amazed how fast a hot sunny day will deplete our pools of chlorine. In my opinion leave it in sun light for 3 to 4 days. Hell seen a pool run out of chlorine in two days from 110°F weather.

Re: my first, second, third, fourth and fifth all at once.
I learned on the first run not to taste from tap. I use Distilled water to water it down. Anytime I use tap a strange sediment forms at the bottom. I am still learning my Cuts but its a Reflux so from what I read its mostly a small more direct head cut. My next one will be a tried and true but I ran...

my first, second, third, fourth and fifth all at once.
I have taken to this like moth to a flame. My first was 2gal apple juice 5lb sugar with 3 gal tap water used triple distill. I can't place my taste buds on it but it has a flavor I don't like. It might be because its 180+ proof but it has the faintest off smell so of course I hated it. Second was a ...

Re: Howdy
I run a turbo500 reflux and collect about 1gallon and a half. The recipes I try are out of this Alaskan boot bible. ITS A SHAME!! After 3 runs my roommate got cold feet after he googled the legality. But it's not my house to judge. I found my passion for brewing after I joined the army. My quest is ...

Well I am a little far into the game.. I have pushed out about 3 different brews. First being a Apple juice and Sugar, Second was Grape juice and Sugar, And Final was a 10 pound Sugar run.. I have been the WORST sport about the whole thing.. I put drops of it on every tongue willing to taste. I feel...
