Re: Midwest Contingent

Evening Gents!

Apologies for not making this, I had apparatus driving certification training this weekend for my local fire department.
The next time another get together is planned, I look forward to joining in!

Cheers!

Re: Hello from Michigan

Welcome! Another Michigander here! I was never into home brewing, but I know many people that are and they make some pretty good drinks. You'll find all kinds of information here as well as awesome people willing to help. The main key is reading. Read, read and reread. I've been in this hobby for ov...

Re: I'm Making Orange Creamsicle recipe ... needs refrigerat

I know this is a dated thread but I have to add a little something here. Powered sugar. It has an anti-caking agent in it...usually corn starch. So if you have a drink that tastes chalky, thick or looks cloudy or otherwise not the way you expected, the culprit could very well be the powdered sugar. ...

Re: To stir or not to stir grain mash?

I stir only before and at the pitch. Stirring introduces oxygen into the mix which is important for the yeast to reproduce and get the party started. The lack of oxygen will allow the yeast to go anaerobic and produce the alcohol we know and love. Stirring in the middle of that process will delay t...

Re: Spear for Thump Keg

Well look at what we have here! Just a couple connections left to solder and shes ready to get cleaned and sanitized! I'm thinking on shortening the line that runs from the boiler to the thumper and sealing the connections with flour paste when I'm running. The only reason for this is to keep the th...

Spear for Thump Keg

Hi all!

Finally got around to getting the parts necessary to build the spear for my pony keg thumper. A couple more measurements, loose assembly, final inspection, solder and she'll be ready to go!

Re: Pumpkin Pie

Hey, Nokum. Sounds good. Saw the recipe and wondered if the 100 to 120 proof mellows out. Love my shit strong, but not overpowering in a "relaxing" drink. It was pretty hot right after I made it that's for sure. After sitting in the refrigerator for a couple days, it really does mellow out. At firs...

Re: First Cherry Bounce

Thanks! Bushman...that does sound good! I can see where some may think that the two flavors wouldn't go together, but the sweetness of both would make a fine drink! Still Life...it sure does! I gave it a little stir today and the color really has come out...and I can only imagine the flavor! ---Stiff

Where I live it's cherry season...and there are LOADS of them! So I went to a local orchard and picked somewhere in the neighborhood of 10#...(I know the farmer so it's cool)
Now I have all these beautiful, sweet cherries...so what do I do with some?

Re: Pot still, cleaning run

I've searched the HD forum and couldn't find the exact answer to this. For the 50/50 vinegar run, do I run the still without the condenser so that I get vinegar vapor through the entire still? It would appear that some do this and others run it with the condenser on. How long do I run it without th...
